While research on the design of heterogeneous concurrent systems has a long and rich history, a unified design methodology and tool support has not emerged so far, and thus the creation of such systems remains a difficult, time-consuming and error-prone pr ...

Signal processing algorithms become more and more complex and the algorithm architecture adaptation and design processes cannot any longer rely only on the intuition of the designers to build efficient systems. Specific tools and methods are needed to cope ...

The MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding (RVC) framework is a new standard under development by MPEG that aims at providing a unified high-level specification of current and future MPEG video coding technologies using dataflow models. In this framework, a decoder ...

New generations of multi-core processors and reconfigurable hardware platforms are expected to provide a dramatic increase of processing capabilities. However, one obstacle for exploiting all the promises of such new platforms is the legacy of current appl ...

Dataflow process networks provide a versatile model of computation for specifying signal processing applications in a platform independent fashion. This attractive feature of dataflow has lately been realized in dataflow programming tools that allow synthe ...

The recent MPEG Reconfigurable Media Coding (RMC) standard aims at defining media processing specifications (e.g. video codecs) in a form that abstracts from the implementation platform, but at the same time is an appropriate starting point for implementat ...

The MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding working group is developing a new library-based process for building the reference codecs of future MPEG standards, which is based on dataflow and uses an actor language called Cal. The paper presents a code generator pro ...

The current monolythic and lengthy scheme behind the standardization and the design of new video coding standards is becoming inappropriate to satisfy the dynamism and changing needs of the video coding community. Such scheme and specification formal- ism ...

The potential computational power of today multicore processors has drastically improved compared to the single processor architecture. Since the trend of increasing the processor frequency is almost over, the competition for increased performance has move ...

This paper describes and demonstrates a toolchain which enables HW-SW co-synthesis from a single high-level dataflow program. This toolchain does not only enable rapid-prototyping of complex designs, but also provides a complete system integration framewor ...
