Hallucinations can occur in the healthy population, are clinically relevant and frequent symptoms in many neuropsychiatric conditions, and have been shown to mark disease progression in patients with neurodegenerative disorders where antipsychotic treatmen ...

A computer-implemented method for inducing an Out of Body Experience (OBE) in a user through an augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) system, the OBE including an exit state and a disembodiment state, the method comprising the steps of (a) changing the user vi ...

Experimental manipulations of body ownership have indicated that multisensory integration is central to forming bodily self representation. Voluntary self touch is a unique multisensory situation involving corresponding motor, tactile and proprioceptive si ...

Dysfunction of sensorimotor predictive processing is thought to underlie abnormalities in self-monitoring producing passivity symptoms in psychosis. Experimentally induced sensorimotor conflict can produce a failure in bodily self-monitoring (presence hall ...

A method for inducing the feeling of a presence (FoP) in a subject by using a master-slave robotic system, the method including the steps of altering a visual perception of a surrounding environment of the subject, connecting the subject with a robotic mas ...

This paper reports the design of a Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) gripper with four degrees of freedom force sensing capabilities. It will be used to provide force feedback during surgical interventions in which the surgeon will remotely manipulate surgi ...

Manipulation of hand posture, such as crossing the hands, has been frequently used to study how the body and its immediately surrounding space are represented in the brain. Abundant data show that crossed arms posture impairs remapping of tactile stimuli f ...

Thought insertion (TI) is characterized by the experience that certain thoughts, occurring in one’s mind, are not one’s own, but the thoughts of somebody else and suggestive of a psychotic disorder. We report a robotics-based method able to investigate the ...

The use of hands for gathering rich sensory information is essential for proper interaction with the environment; therefore, the restoration of sensation is critical for reestablishing the sense of embodiment in hand amputees. Here, we show that a noninvas ...

The invention relates to an upper limb rehabilitation system for rehabilitating an upper limb of a subject and comprising a mobile platform coupled to a fixed platform. The mobile platform comprises an articulate handle assembly movable, during a rehabilit ...

A multimodal haptic device operating as a closed-loop system, the device including a pipeline configured to allow a closed-loop flow of a fluid medium, a manifold operatively connected to the pipeline, the manifold having a pump and a valve to control and ...

A system for predicting a likelihood of an occurrence of hallucinations in a subject including a master device configured to be at least one of moved, moved on, and manipulated by a subject, a slave device operably connected with the master device and adap ...
