Nanostructuring hematite films is a critical step for enhancing photoelectrochemical performance by circumventing the intrinsic limitations on minority carrier transport. Herein, we present a novel sol-gel approach that affords nanostructured hematite film ...

The realization of photoelectrochemical tandem cells for efficient solar-to-hydrogen energy conversion is currently impeded by the lack of inexpensive, stable, and efficient photocathodes. The family of sulfide chalcopyrites (CuInxGa1-xS2) has recently dem ...

The development of solution-processable routes to prepare efficient photoelectrodes for water splitting is highly desirable to reduce manufacturing costs. Recently, sulfide chalcopyrites (Cu(In,Ga)S-2) have attracted attention as photocathodes for hydrogen ...

The solid-state self-assembly of molecular semiconductors is a key aspect for controlling the optoelectronic properties of organic electronic materials. Herein, we investigate the use of a flexible linker strategy to control the self-assembly of a solution ...

The greater crystallinity of solution-processed small-molecule organic semiconductors, compared to their polymer counterparts, renders the bulk heterojunction (BHJ) more susceptible to phase separation under thermal stress, decreasing device performance. H ...

Uncovering the precise effect of the conjugated polymer chain length on the semiconducting properties in thin-film devices is confounded by the step-growth polymerization techniques typically used. Here, we use preparatory size exclusion chromatography to ...

Interest in delafossite (CuFeO2) as a candidate p-type photocathode for photoelectrochemical (PEC) solar fuel production has recently been increasing, mainly due to its excellent stability in aqueous environments and favorable light absorption properties. ...

Organic semiconductors have recently emerged as a promising alternative to standard inorganic semiconductors for many commercial applications. Their ability to be processed from solution combined with their unique mechanical resistance paves the way for lo ...

Ternary bulk heterojunctions with cascade-type energy-level configurations are of significant interest for further improving the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells. However, controlling the self-assembly in solution-processed ternary ...

Templating nanocrystals into mesoporous electrodes using an organic porogen typically requires thermal oxidation at >400 degrees C to completely remove the organic material and afford good electronic properties. These oxidation conditions are incompatible ...

Compositional engineering of a mixed cation/mixed halide perovskite in the form of (FAP-bI(3))(0.85)(MAPbBr(3))(0.15) is one of the most effective strategies to obtain record-efficiency perovskite solar cells. However, the perovskite self-organization upon ...

Thienoacenes and furoacenes are among the most frequent molecular units found in organic materials. The efficient synthesis of morphologically different heteroacenes and the rapid determination of their solid-state and electronic properties are still chall ...

Tunable ambipolar photoelectrochemical behavior emerges from microdomains of nanostructured p-type CuFeO2 and n-type Fe2O3 that arise from a single facile solution-processed thin fi lm. The switchable operation of this system is controlled by chemical, opt ...

The development of fully-conjugated semiconducting block-copolymers is an important goal for organic electronics, but to date has been almost exclusively limited to materials containing poly(3-alkylthiophenes). Here we present the prototype of a class of f ...

Exfoliated transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDs) are attractive light-harvesting materials for large-area and inexpensive solar energy conversion given their ability to form highly tolerant heterojunctions. However, the preparation of large-area heter ...
