We describe a method to measure the relaxation rates in Rubidium (Rb) Pulsed Optically Pumped (POP) vapor cell frequency standards. By means of repeated spectroscopy measurements with varying Ramsey time, we show how to extract multiple estimations of the ...

Nowadays mobile and battery-powered applications push the need for radically miniaturized and low-power frequency standards that surpass the stability achievable with quartz oscillators. For the miniaturization of double-resonance rubidium (Rb-87) atomic c ...

We present the latest development of our in-house miniature atomic clock (LEMAC). The clock scheme is based on the continuous wave (CW) optical-microwave double resonance (DR) interrogation. Significant efforts have been put in a newly designed miniature m ...

Real-time clearance control in turbine engines allows improving their efficiency and safety, by enabling prognostics and optimized condition-based maintenance in the turbine hot section. This paper presents a novel 24 GHz microwave sensing system for real- ...

Microwave cavities, or microwave resonators, are used in a variety of applications, including filters, oscillators, frequency meters, and tuned amplifiers. The ever-increasing demand for compact and/or portable telecommunication systems drives the need for ...

This paper discusses several evolved micro-loop-gap microwave resonator designs for chip-scale atomic clock applications. Two different schemes have been investigated to develop the LEMAC (LTF-EPFL Miniature Atomic Clock) based on the optical-microwave dou ...

We demonstrate and study a microcell microwave atomic clock based on optical-microwave double resonance (DR) interrogation operated in a pulsed Ramsey scheme, called the mu POP clock, based on a microfabricated Rb vapor cell and a micro-loop-gap microwave ...

Real-time Blade Tip Timing (BTT) in rotating machinery enables condition-based maintenance and blade failure prevention. In this paper, we propose a new 6 GHz microwave sensing system suitable for BTT in gas and steam turbines. The system working principle ...

Nowadays there is an increasing need for radically miniaturized and low-power atomic frequency standards, for use in mobile and battery-powered applications. For the miniaturization of double-resonance (DR) Rubidium (Rb-87) atomic clocks, the size reductio ...

Real time tip clearance measurement in gas turbines and other rotating machinery is an interesting way to provide enhanced reliability, cost effective maintenance and more overall safety. This paper presents a novel microwave sensor for blade tip clearance ...

We evaluate the potential of a new generation microwave cavity by double resonance spectroscopic studies. Both, the cell and the microwave cavity are microfabricated. This allows a substantial size reduction for the physics package, without compromising th ...

We report on the performance evaluation of the LEMAC miniature atomic clock, based on the optical-microwave Double-Resonance (DR) scheme, implementing a micro-fabricated Rb vapor cell held inside a custom-designed micro-loop-gap microwave resonator (μ-LGR) ...
