A highly efficient iron-catalyzed production of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from sugar is reported. The dehydration of fructose and sucrose has been studied in the presence of different iron salts and co-catalysts. As a result, it was found that fructose ...

Heteronuclear Au–Pd nanoparticles were prepared and immobilized in the functionalized ionic liquid [C2OHmim][NTf2]. The structural and electronic properties of the nanoparticles were characterized by a range of techniques and the surface of the nanoparticl ...

Polyvinylpyrrolidone stabilized rhodium nanoparticles are highly sol. in hydroxyl-functionalized ionic liqs., providing an effective and highly stable catalytic system. In hydrogenation reactions, excellent results were obtained, and transmission electron ...

A homogenous catalytic system has been developed that efficiently and selectively decomposes formic acid into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. [Ru(H2O)6]2+, [Ru(H2O)6]3+ and RuCl3·xH2O are all excellent precatalysts in presence of TPPTS (TPPTS=meta-trisulfonat ...

The transformation of lignin-derived phenolic compds. to alkanes was achieved using catalysts based on Bronsted acidic ionic liqs. (ILs). The catalytic system is composed of metal nanoparticles (NPs) and a functionalized Bronsted acidic IL immobilized in a ...

Nanoparticle (NP) catalysis is traditionally viewed as a sub-section of heterogeneous catalysis. However, certain properties of NP catalysts, especially NPs dispersed in solvents, indicate that there could be benefits from viewing them from the perspective ...

Platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs stabilized by an ionic-liq.-like-copolymer (IP) immobilized in various ionic liqs. (ILs)) effectively catalyze the selective hydrogenation of arom. chloronitro compds. to arom. chloroamines, a reaction of considerable com. sig ...

The one-step conversion of cellulose to C6-alcs. via green and energy efficient approaches has, as far as we are aware, not been reported. Such a process presents a considerable challenge, the two key problems being (1) finding a suitable solvent that diss ...

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a key platform chemical that may be obtained from various cellulosic (biomass) derivatives. Previously, it has been shown that ionic liquids (ILs) facilitate the catalytic conversion of glucose into HMF. Herein, we demonstr ...

A combination of in situ time-resolved DXAFS and ICP-MS techniques reveals that the formation process of Rh nanoparticles (NPs) from rhodium trichloride trihydrate (RhCl3 center dot 3H(2)O) in ethylene glycol with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) at elevated tem ...

Direct conversion of lignin into alkanes and methanol was carried out in a two-step process (hydrogenolysis and hydrogenation) involving initial treatment of white birch wood sawdust with H2 in dioxane/water/phosphoric acid using carbon supported Ru, Pd, R ...

An efficient method for the synthesis of amides via Pd-catalyzed oxidative carbonylation of C(sp(3))-H bonds with CO and amines is described. The route efficiently provides substituted phenyl amides from alkanes. ...

Rhodium nanoparticles stabilized by the ionic-liq.-like copolymer N-Vinyl-2-pyrrolidone-1-vinyl-3-butylimidazolium chloride-1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium bromide copolymer were used to catalyze the hydrogenation of benzene and other arenes in ILs. The nanopar ...

Analysis of infrared spectra of palladium nanoparticles (NPs) immersed in the tri-tert-butyl-R-phosphonium-based ionic liquids (ILs) demonstrates that both cations and anions of the ILs interact with the NPs. According to quantum-chemical simulations of th ...

An efficient method for the synthesis of N-aryl monosubstituted carboxamides via the Pd-catalyzed carbonylation of alkenes with CO and amines is described. Mechanistic insights for this highly selective reaction are provided. ...
