Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) constitute a novel class of hybrid organic-inorganic solar cells. At the heart of the device is a mesoporous film of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, which are coated with a monolayer of dye sensitive to the visible ...

Tandem solar cells using different bandgap absorbers allow efficient photovoltaic conversion in a wide range of the solar spectrum. The optical gaps of the dye-sensitized solar cell and the Cu(In,Ga)Se2 solar cell are ideal for application in double-junctio ...

We present a novel “brick and mortar” strategy for creating highly efficient transparent TiO2 coatings for photocatalytic and photovoltaic applications. Our approach is based on the fusion of preformed titania nanocrystalline “bricks” through surfactant-te ...

The design and development of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) is currently often realized on an empirical basis. In view of assisting in this optimization process, we present the framework of a model which consists in a coupled optical and electrical mod ...

CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) solar cells show a good spectral response in a wide range of the solar spectrum and the bandgap of CIGS can be adjusted from 1.0 eV to 1.7 eV by increasing the gallium-to-indium ratio of the absorber. While the bandgaps of Ga-rich CIGS ...

Two donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) dyes, coded as L-3T-DPA 1 and B-5T-DPA 2, were synthesized for application in dye-sensitized solar cells. These D-π-A sensitizers use diphenylamine as donor, an oligothiophene as π-bridge, and cyanoacrylic acid as an acceptor g ...

We employed the bisthienothiophene conjugated linker along with a hydrophobic triphenylamine electron-donor and a hydrophilic cyanoacrylic acid electron-acceptor to construct a high molar extinction coefficient organic photosensitizer, exhibiting a power c ...

The dye-sensitized mesoscopic solar cell has been intensively investigated as a promising photovoltaic cell. Its ecological and economical fabrication processes make it attractive and credible alternative to conventional photovoltaic systems. In contrast t ...

We report a high molar extinction coefficient organic sensitizer for high efficiency dye-sensitized solar cells. In combination with a solvent-free ionic liquid electrolyte, we have demonstrated a 7% cell showing an excellent stability measured under the t ...

Cost-effective organic sensitizers will play a pivotal role in the future large-scale production and application of dye-sensitized solar cells. Here we report two new organic D-π-A dyes featuring electron-rich 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene- and 2,2′-bis(3,4-e ...

The development of metal-free organic sensitizers is a key issue in dye-sensitized solar cell research. We report successful photovoltaic conversion with a new class of stable tetrathiafulvalene derivatives, showing surprising electrochemical and kinetic p ...
