We present detailed chemical abundances for 99 red-giant branch stars in the centre of the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy, which have been obtained from high-resolution VLT/FLAMES spectroscopy. The abundances of Li, Na, alpha-elements (O, Mg, Si, Ca Ti), ...

Stellar ejecta gradually enrich the gas out of which subsequent stars form, making the least chemically enriched stellar systems direct fossils of structures formed in the early Universe(1). Although a few hundred stars with metal content below 1,000th of ...

With the aim of understanding the effect of the environment on the star formation history and morphological transformation of galaxies, we present a detailed analysis of the colour, morphology and internal structure of cluster and field galaxies at 0.4

The detailed abundances of 23 chemical elements in nine bright red giant branch stars in the Carina dwarf spheroidal galaxy are presented based on high-resolution spectra gathered at the Very Large Telescope (VLT) and Magellan telescopes. A spherical model ...

We used the spectro-photometric information of similar to 219 million stars from Gaia's Data Release 3 (DR3) to calculate synthetic, narrowband, metallicity-sensitive CaHK magnitudes that mimic the observations of the Pristine survey, a survey of photometr ...

We explore the possible effect of cluster environments on the structure and star formation histories of galaxies by analysing the projected phase-space (PPS) of intermediate-redshift clusters (0.4

Post-starburst (E+A or k+a) spectra, characterized by their exceptionally strong Balmer lines in absorption and the lack of emission lines, belong to galaxies in which the star formation (SF) activity ended abruptly sometime during the past Gyr. We perform ...

We present the NLTE abundances of 10 chemical species in 65 very metal-poor stars in eight dSphs and the Milky Way halo. The classical dSphs Sculptor, Ursa Minor, Sextans, and Fornax reveal a similar plateau at [alpha/Fe] = 0.3 for each of Mg, Ca, and Ti, ...

We present a one-dimensional, local thermodynamic equilibrium homogeneous analysis of 132 stars observed at high resolution with ESPaDOnS. This represents the largest sample observed at high resolution (R similar to 40 000) from the Pristine survey. This s ...

We present atmospheric parameters and abundances for chemical elements from carbon to barium in metal-poor stars in Segue 1 (seven stars), Coma Berenices (three stars), and Triangulum II (one star) ultrafaint dwarf galaxies (UFDs). The effective temperatur ...

We present the fully parallel chemo-dynamical Tree/SPH code GEAR, which allows us to perform high resolution simulations with detailed chemical diagnostics. Starting from the public version of Gadget-2, we included the complex treatment of the baryon physi ...

Despite the ubiquity of clumpy star-forming galaxies at high-redshift, the origin of clumps are still largely unconstrained due to the limited observations that can validate the mechanisms for clump formation. We postulate that if clumps form due to the ac ...

Ground-based surveys have mapped the stellar outskirts of Local Group disc galaxies in unprecedented detail, but extending this work to other galaxies is necessary in order to overcome stochastic variations in evolutionary history and provide more stringen ...

We present a two-channel deconvolution method that decomposes images into a parametric point-source channel and a pixelized extended-source channel. Based on the central idea of the deconvolution algorithm proposed by Magain et al. (1998, ApJ, 494, 472), t ...

This paper is the second of a series that tackles the properties of molecular gas in galaxies residing in clusters and their related large-scale structures. Out of 21 targeted fields, 19 galaxies were detected in CO(3-2) with the Atacama Large Millimeter A ...

We present [C/Fe] and [N/Fe] abundance ratios and CH(lambda 4300) and S(lambda 3883) index measurements for 94 red giant branch (RGB) stars in the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy from VLT/VIMOS MOS observations at a resolving power R = 1150 at 4020 A. Thi ...

We present a study of large-scale bars in field and cluster environments out to redshifts of similar to 0.8 using a final sample of 945 moderately inclined disk galaxies drawn from the EDisCS project. We characterize bars and their host galaxies and look f ...

Euclid is poised to make significant advances in the study of nearby galaxies in the Local Universe. Here we present a first look at six galaxies observed for the Nearby Galaxy Showcase as part of the Euclid Early Release Observations acquired between Augu ...

Although true metal-free "Population III" stars have so far escaped discovery, their nature, and that of their supernovae, is revealed in the chemical products left behind in the next generations of stars. Here we report the detection of an ultra-metal-poo ...

Aims. We present spectroscopic observations of galaxies in 15 survey fields as part of the ESO Distant Cluster Survey ( EDisCS). We determine the redshifts and velocity dispersions of the galaxy clusters located in these fields, and we test for possible su ...
