This paper proposes an assessment of long-term climate strategies for oil- and gas-producing countries-in particular, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states-as regards the Paris Agreement goal of limiting the increase of surface air temperature t ...

Understanding the economic magnitude of climate change impacts is a prerequisite for developing adequate adaptation strategies. In Switzerland, despite new climate scenarios and impact studies, only few impacts have been monetized. Our objective is to asse ...

In Switzerland, transportation represents 41% of CO2 emissions from energy combustion (2016), a much higher share than in the European Union (EU) (28%) or even the USA (34%). While total Swiss CO2 emissions decreased by 10% between 1990 and 2016, CO2 emiss ...

This paper deals with the modeling of the strategic allocation of greenhouse gases emission allowances in the EU-wide trading market that results from Kyoto agreement implementation. An M-matrix game is formulated where the players are countries or groups ...

This chapter explores the challenges and options of designing an efficient long-term global climate policy for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The authors start by reviewing the exposure of GCC countries to climate risks and the mitigation and ad ...

In the framework of the revision of the Swiss CO2-Law and in the preparation of the international negotiations that place at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Swiss Government has proposed a set ...

To meet the Paris temperature targets and recover from the effects of the pandemic, many countries have launched economic recovery plans, including specific elements to promote clean energy technologies and green jobs. However, how to successfully manage i ...

The transition towards decarbonized and efficient energy systems has broad socio-economic implications. We estimate the potential impacts on employment from efforts in energy efficiency in industry, transport and buildings as well as substituting local ren ...

A climate treaty like the one which should replace the Kyoto Protocol after 2012, may have important impacts on the oil, gas and coal markets. The full impact of such a treaty will not be felt before 2030. In this paper one uses a computable general equili ...

In July 2016, the European Commission presented its proposal for a regulation to reduce greenhouse gases emissions in sectors not covered by the emissions trading system with regard to post-2020 binding targets. The proposal extends the burden-sharing fram ...

Implementation of CBAM to support EU climate neutrality by 2050 has raised several concerns. As the mechanism aims to minimise leakage through equal fairness in global mitigation, imposing carbon tariffs on the EU's imports of energy- intensive goods could ...

The transition to a low-carbon economy can create new job opportunities but may cause job displacement in some sectors that heavily rely on fossil fuels. In order to gain a balanced appraisal in understanding the broader consequences of climate policies, t ...

We use the flexible model coupling technology known as the bespoke framework generator to link established existing modules representing dynamics in the global economy (GEMINI-E3), the energy system (TIAM-WORLD), the global and regional climate system (MAG ...

In this paper, we evaluate the recent developments of European climate policy from the perspective of the 2050 European commitments with regards to GHG emissions reduction. We use a non-cooperative meta-game approach for assessing European burden-sharing i ...

The aim of this paper is to explore the long-term relevance of negative emissions for the attainment of Paris agreement goals. For this purpose, we extend a game theoretic meta-model used to assess the future of Paris agreement to the time horizon 2100 and ...

In this paper we propose a non-cooperative meta-game approach to designing and assessing climate agreements among 28 European countries that will be compatible with the EU 2050 climate target. Our proposed game model is identified through statistical emula ...

Implementation of CBAM to support EU climate neutrality by 2050 has raised concerns. As the mechanism aims to minimise leakage through equal fairness in global mitigation, imposing carbon tariffs on the EU’s imports of energyintensive goods could curtail t ...

The broad objective of this study is to estimate the economic impact of changes in water availability due to climate change in Switzerland with a 2050 time horizon. To do so, the sectoral structure of the computable general equilibrium model GEMINI-E3 is b ...
