Alexandra Bezler

Alexandra Bezler is a lecturer at the School of Life Sciences with more than 10 years experience in giving hands-on training and mentoring of (under-)graduate students in laboratory techniques, experimental design and science communication. Through discovery-oriented outreach given in French, English, and German, she conducts laboratory tours and school visits, making science and scientists accessible to the public. During her studies in Biotechnology at the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim, she trained in research labs at the Friedrich Miescher Institute, Basel, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg. In 2011, she was awarded a PhD in Molecular Life Sciences from the EPFL for her research on the mechanisms that regulate cell division. As a postdoctoral researcher with Laurent Keller (University of Lausanne) and Pierre Gönczy (EPFL) she coordinated multidisciplinary projects on fundamental questions in cell biology and genetics in evolutionary diverse organisms from nematodes to termite symbionts. Since 2024, she has served as Education Ambassador for Life Sciences Switzerland (LS2), contributing to the activities of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS), and since 2025, as an elected member of the EPFL Teacher Council (CCE).
