Ferroelectric ceramic – polymer composites have a unique mix of electrical and mechanical properties. Piezoelectric and pyroelectric activity, a wide range of dielectric constants and high breakdown strength are combined with mechanical flexibility, formab ...

Solvent cast and compression molded composite films based on poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene), containing pristine and silylated BaTiO3 particles, were poled, and their electromechanical response (d(33)), their dielectric properties, and the cry ...

As plant fibres are increasingly used in technical textiles and their composites, underlying principles of wound healing in living plant fibres are relevant to product quality, and provide inspiration for biomimetic healing in synthetic materials. In this ...

Satisfactory impregnation of glass fiber mats may be obtained with isotactic polypropylene/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites under conditions comparable with industrial conditions. However, it is demonstrated here that the high melt viscosity of the nan ...

The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of interfacial chemistry on the properties of fluoropolymer composites, independent of effects derived from changes in morphology, in particular particle dispersion state. A comparative study of solvent ...

The validity of the time-intensity superposition principle for the photoinitiated polymerization of nanocomposites based on a monofunctional fluorinated acrylate and on a multifunctional hyperbranched polyether acrylate was investigated in this work. Maste ...

Bio-inspired fluorine-free and self-cleaning polymer coatings were developed using a combination of self-assembly and UV-printing processes. Nasturtium and lotus leaves were selected as natural template surfaces. A UV-curable acrylate oligomer and three ac ...

Although addition of montmorillonite (MMT) clay to isotactic polypropylene (iPP) results in large increases in the melt viscosity at low shear rates, satisfactory impregnation of glass mats is obtained with iPP/MMT under conditions typical of industrial pr ...

Nanocomposites based on polyvinylidene fluoride– trifluoroethylene copolymer and up to 4 vol % of hydrophobized clay nanoparticles are investigated. The structure, piezoelectric properties, and oxygen permeability of solvent cast films are analyzed before ...

A facile in situ and UV printing process was demonstrated to create self-cleaning synthetic replica of natural petals and leaves. The process relied on the spontaneous migration of a fluorinated acrylate surfactant (PFUA) within a low-shrinkage acrylated h ...

In this study (0-3) P(VDF-TrFE)/BaTiO3 composites containing up to 60 vol% of ceramic phase were prepared by solvent casting or compression molding. Their thermomechanical, dielectric, and piezoelectric properties were investigated, and discussed in the li ...

Micron- and submicron-sized barium titanate (BaTiO3) particles, untreated and surface modified with aminopropyl triethoxy silane, were incorporated in poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) to fabricate composites with up to 60 vol% of ceramic phase. ...

Polypropylene/montmorillonite (iPP/MMT) has been investigated as an alternative to isotactic polypropylene (iPP) as a matrix for glass mat thermoplastic (GMT) composites. The melt viscosity increased significantly on MMT addition, but iPP/5.9wt% MMT-based ...

Composites in which particles of ferroelectric ceramic phase are randomly dispersed in a polymeric matrix are of interest because of flexibility, conformability, and ease of processing. However, their piezoelectric properties are rather low, unless very hi ...
