Dynamical perturbations modify the states of classical systems in surprising ways and give rise to important applications in science and technology. For example, Floquet engineering exploits the possibility of band formation in the frequency domain when a ...

It is well established that in the low-temperature limit, the two-dimensional quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a square lattice (2DQHAFSL) exhibits an anomaly in its spectrum at short-wavelengths on the zone-boundary. In the vicinity of the (pi, 0) po ...

Doped Mott insulators are the starting point for interesting physics such as high temperature superconductivity and quantum spin liquids. For multi-band Mott insulators, orbital selective ground states have been envisioned. However, orbital selective metal ...

In chiral cubic helimagnets, phases of magnetic skyrmions-topologically protected spin whirls-are stabilized by thermal fluctuations over a narrow region directly below the magnetic ordering temperature T-c. Due to often being touted for use in application ...

Fractionalization remains one of the most fascinating manifestations of strong interactions in quantum many-body systems. In quantum magnetism, the existence of spinons-collective magnetic excitations that behave as quasiparticles with fractional quantum n ...

We report a small-angle neutron scattering study of the helical and skyrmion lattice order in single-crystal Cu2OSeO3 under quasihydrostatic helium gas pressures up to 5 kbar. By using helium gas as the pressure-transmitting medium (PTM) we ensure pressure ...

We performed inelastic neutron scattering measurements on single crystals of NdFe3((BO3)-B-11)(4) to explore the magnetic excitations, to establish the underlying Hamiltonian, and to reveal the detailed nature of hybridization between the 4f and 3d magneti ...

Neutron diffraction is used to investigate the field-induced, antiferromagnetically ordered state in the two-leg spin-ladder material (Hpip)(2)CuBr4. This "classical" phase, a consequence of weak interladder coupling, is nevertheless highly unconventional: ...

Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are layered compounds that support many electronic phases, including various charge density waves, superconducting, and Mott insulating states. Their intercalation with magnetic ions introduces magnetic sublayers, wh ...

Murunskite (K 2 FeCu 3 S 4 ) bridges the two known families of high‐temperature superconductors, cuprates and iron‐pnictides, structurally and electronically. Like these families, murunskite exhibits an antiferromagnetic (AF)‐like response with an ordered ...

Neutron scattering studies on powder and single crystals have provided new evidence for unconventional magnetism in Cu2Te2O5Cl2. The compound is built from tetrahedral clusters of S=1/2 Cu2+ spins located on a tetragonal lattice. Magnetic ordering, emergin ...

AC-specific heat measurements remain as the foremost thermodynamic experimental method to underpin phase transitions in tiny samples. However, its performance under combined extreme conditions of high-pressure, very low temperature and intense magnetic fie ...

We study the structural evolution of Sr3Ir2O7 as a function of pressure using x-ray diffraction. At a pressure of 54 GPa at room temperature, we observe a first-order structural phase transition, associated with a change from tetragonal to monoclinic symme ...

Bulk magnetism in solids is fundamentally quantum mechanical in nature. Yet in many situations, including our everyday encounters with magnetic materials, quantum effects are masked, and it often suffices to think of magnetism in terms of the interaction b ...

Quantum spin liquids are highly entangled magnetic states with exotic properties. The S = 1/2 square-lattice Heisenberg model is one of the foundational models in frustrated magnetism with a predicted, but never observed, quantum spin liquid state. Isostru ...

The discovery of multiple coexisting magnetic phases in the crystallographically homogeneous compound Ca3Co2O6 has stimulated ongoing research activity. In recent years the main focus has been on the zero-field-state properties, where exceedingly long time ...

The electronic structure of metallic Bi2Ir2O7 has been investigated by a combination of soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy, x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES), and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) in the vicinity of the oxygen K edge. The O K-edge ...

We report x-ray absorption and x-ray linear dichroism measurements at the Fe L-2,L-3 edges of the geometrically frustrated systems of potassium and hydronium iron jarosite. Comparison with simulated spectra, involving ligand-field multiplet calculations mo ...

Quantum spin liquids are exotic states of matter that form when strongly frustrated magnetic interactions induce a highly entangled quantum paramagnet far below the energy scale of the magnetic interactions. Three-dimensional cases are especially challengi ...

We report high-resolution single-crystal inelastic neutron scattering measurements on the spin-1/2 antiferromagnet Ba(TiO)Cu-4(PO4)(4). This material is formed from layers of four-site "cupola" structures, oriented alternately upwards and downwards, which ...
