Background and objectives: The thalamus exerts a pivotal role in pain processing and cortical excitability control, and migraine is characterized by repeated pain attacks and abnormal cortical habituation to excitatory stimuli. This work aimed at studying ...

Purpose Non-invasive axon diameter distribution (ADD) mapping using diffusion MRI is an ill-posed problem. Current ADD mapping methods require knowledge of axon orientation before performing the acquisition. Instead, ActiveAx uses a 3D sampling scheme to e ...

Detecting local differences between groups of connectomes is a great challenge in neuroimaging, because the large number of tests that have to be performed and the impact on multiplicity correction. Any available information should be exploited to increase ...

Introduction. Local microstructural pathology in multiple sclerosis patients might influence their clinical performance. This study applied multicontrast MRI to quantify inflammation and neurodegeneration in MS lesions. We explored the impact of MRI-based ...

The distribution of axon diameters (ADD) is an important white matter feature: it influences action potential speed, it has been shown to evolve during development, and also to be affected during pathological processes. Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging ...

Monte-Carlo Diffusion Simulations (MCDS) have been used extensively as a ground truth tool for the validation of microstructure models for Diffusion-Weighted MRI. However, methodological pitfalls in the design of the biomimicking geometrical configurations ...

Background: Cerebellar pathology occurs in late multiple sclerosis (MS) but little is known about cerebellar changes during early disease stages. In this study, we propose a new multicontrast “connectometry” approach to assess the structural and functional ...

The involvement of the cerebellum in migraine pathophysiology is not well understood. We used a biparametric approach at high-field MRI (3 T) to assess the structural integrity of the cerebellum in 15 migraineurs with aura (MWA), 23 migraineurs without aur ...

The cerebellum is involved in multiple sclerosis (MS), but its implication in early phases is still poorly understood. We investigated structural and functional cerebellar connectivity alterations in early and minimally impaired MS patients, and their corr ...

Axon Diameter Distributions (ADDs) change during brain development and are altered in several brain pathologies. Mapping ADDs non-invasively using dMRI could provide a useful biomarker, but existing methods are either parametric, orientation dependent, sur ...

In vivo quantitative estimation of axon diameter in the white matter could bring new tools to study the structural and functional architecture of the brain. Recently, the feasibility of axon diameter estimation with diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) has been ...

Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures of multiple sclerosis patients provide limited information about the nature and the extent of brain damage and repair. We established a clinically compatible protocol including quantitative MRI techniq ...

One of the major limitations of diffusion MRI tractography is that the tractograms, i.e. set of fiber tracts, recovered by existing algorithms are not truly quantitative. Hence, the structural connectivity between different brain regions, a.k.a. connectomi ...

Investigative studies of white matter (WM) brain structures using diffusion MRI (dMRI) tractography frequently require manual WM bundle segmentation, often called "virtual dissection." Human errors and personal decisions make these manual segmentations har ...

We report the case of a 67-year-old left-handed female patient with disabling medically refractory essential tremor who underwent successful right-sided magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) of the ventral intermediate nucleus after ipsilat ...

Microstructure imaging with diffusion MRI (dMRI) is usually based on fitting models to the data using voxelwise nonlinear procedures that (i) are time consuming and (ii) need long acquisitions. Recently, we introduced the AMICO framework to accelerate the ...

Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of patients with multiple sclerosis provides only limited insights into the nature of brain tissue damage with modest clinical-radiological correlations. In this study, quantitative and semi-quantitative MRI te ...

State-of-the-art microstructure imaging methods usually fit biophysical models to the diffusion MRI data on a voxel-by-voxel basis using non-linear procedures that require both long acquisitions and processing time. We recently introduced AMICO, a framewor ...

Volumetric analysis of bundles derived from tractography is a popular statistical measure used in neurological disorder studies. Recent research performed by Gauvin shows that different bundles saturate with different tractography parameters, however, to a ...
