We present a chip-scale optofluidic interferometric sensor for measuring liquid pressure based on an imaging method. The chip was constructed with a polymer by multilayer soft lithography. It consists of a flexible air gap optical cavity, which, upon illum ...

This special issue explores the dynamic and rapidly evolving field of optical computing, with a focus on guided nonlinear optics for information processing. Recent years have seen a resurgence of interest in this area [1], fuelled by groundbreaking experim ...

It is possible to focus coherent light through a multicore fiber with a resolution finer than the core-to-core spacing using digital phase conjugation. In this paper we use the memory effect and show that the displacement of the focus spot can be realized ...

Additive manufacturing (AM) methods are being integrated in ceramics fabrication either as the main manufacturing tool or for auxiliary purposes. By using polymers, powders and preceramic formulated materials, AM techniques are pushing towards higher resol ...

The invention discloses a system (1) and method to guide light through a scattering medium (4) and project images on a screen (5) placed after the medium (4). Many of the shortcomings of previous approaches for guiding light through scattering medium (4) h ...

Water-splitting devices that operate with humid air feeds are an attractive alternative for hydrogen production as the required water input can be obtained directly from ambient air. This article presents a novel proof-of-concept microfluidic platform that ...

In recent years, research and technology made considerable progress in increasing the speed and the safety of the entire digitization process of ancient collections. Despite this, imaging ancient, fragile or un-opened documents remains a formidable challen ...

Systems and methods for imaging ear tissue include: directing illumination radiation to pass through an intact biological structure and be incident on ear tissue that does not include an exogenous fluorophore, at a plurality of locations, the illumination ...

We investigate the fundamental issues of power transfer and far-field retrieval of subwavelength information in resonantly enhanced near-field imaging systems. It is found that high-quality resonance of the imaging system, such as that provided by dielectr ...

We demonstrate optofluidic evanescent dye lasers based on two types of solid distributed feedback (DFB) grating cavities- the first order linear DFB gratings which gives in-plane laser emitting and second order circular DFB gratings which gives surface las ...

We report an experimental demonstration of optical parametric generation in a periodically poled KTiOP O4 crystal based on the principle of mirrorless optical parametric oscillation. A femtosecond pump pulse spectrally centered at 792 nm from a Ti:sapphire ...

We present a method to perform sample concentration within a lab-on-a-chip using a microfluidic structure which controls the liquid-gas interface through a micropillar array fabricated in polydimethylsiloxane between microfluidic channels. The microstructu ...

The design of a proximity sensor to be integrated into cochlea implants is described. The sensor allows the anticipation of contact between the cochlear implant and intracochlear structures, including the cochlear canal wall and basilar membrane, providing ...

A system and method to generate ultrashort high beam quality pulses from spatio- temporally mode-locked multimode fiber laser are described. The invention relies on engineering the intra-cavity pulse propagation in a multimode laser cavity to shape the spa ...

Deep neural networks (DNNs) are used to reconstruct transmission speckle intensity patterns from the respective reflection speckle intensity patterns generated by illuminated parafilm layers. The dependence of the reconstruction accuracy on the thickness o ...

Endoscopic imaging through a multicore fiber (MCF) is widely used but is affected by pixelated images, which limits its resolution to a few micrometers. This is due to the spacing between the cores in the MCF, which is large enough to avoid core-to-core li ...

We introduce a novel tuning mechanism for optofluidic devices by embedding pressure driven actuator inside microfluidic chips. Multiple tunable optofluidic devices remotely controlled by the pressure of air or liquid were demonstrated. ...

We introduce for the first time a tuning mechanism for optofluidic devices by embedding a Micro-Air-Bag (MAB) actuator inside a microfluidic chip. Multiple tunable optical elements controlled through the pressure of compressed air were demonstrated. (C)200 ...

The authors demonstrate an optically pumped surface emitting polymer dye laser fabricated by nanoimprint lithography. The laser is based on an organic dye hosted within a poly(methylmethacrylate) matrix coated on a transparent substrate, and the laser cavi ...

Accurate intraday solar irradiance forecasting is crucial for optimizing dispatch planning and electricity trading. For this purpose, we introduce a novel and effective approach that includes three distinguishing components from the literature: 1) the unco ...
