Electrochromic windows allow for an improved management of solar heat gains in buildings and enhanced visual comfort of building users. All-solid-state electrochromic devices can be especially durable. During their fabrication lithium has to be inserted, p ...

Modern envelope glazing relies on nanoscale coatings to meet a range of specific needs. Low emissivity coatings can improve the thermal performance of glazing thanks to a thin metallic film. However, the conductive nature of this layer leads to an attenuat ...

In this paper, we study tungsten oxides deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering. The total working pressure during deposition was varied in order to obtain different morphology. The effects on the electronic properties and chemical composition were stud ...

The sector of transportation accounts for about one third of the total energy consumption in Switzerland. A monitoring campaign of the energy consumption of a regional train revealed the critical energy-consuming systems. Heating, cooling and ventilation w ...

Building materials attenuate the microwaves used for telecommunication depending on their composition and thickness. Modern windows contain glass with a metallic coating. This might cause a low quality of cell phone reception inside some buildings. In orde ...

Novel electrochromic glazing technology has been identified as an emerging option for reducing cooling and lighting electricity demand. As this technology is particularly promising for office building we assess the related technical energy saving potential ...

In order to reduce the energy consumption of buildings, modern windows include metal-containing coatings. These coatings strongly attenuate the microwaves used for mobile communications. Here, we present a novel approach to improve radio signal transmissio ...

The demand for energy efficiency of buildings and on-site electricity production is rising. Building integrated photovoltaic can provide a part of the electricity demand. Many studies are related to the module efficiency. However, architectural integration ...

Incorporation of Mo into pure WO3 thin films is of interest for electrochromic devices, as it improves colour neutrality in the dark state. Existing literature still lacks reliable quantitative data on the complex dielectric function of such coatings. In t ...

Thin films of pure vanadium oxide (VOx) and Ge doped vanadium oxide (VOx:Ge) have been deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering on Si (100) substrates. These films were characterized by means of in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and ultraviolet ph ...

Solar cooking is one possible solution to reduce the domination of fossil fuel in the domestic sector and to benefit from renewable energy. This study assesses the solar cooking potential in Switzerland. A nodal model, based on energy balance equations of ...

A new generation of smart solar thermal collectors is based on thermochromic thin film technology. Thermochromic absorber coatings change their optical properties with temperature, particularly in the infrared range. In order to prevent overheating, the co ...

In this paper, we report the preparation of the precursor solutions for the deposition of Cu-Co-Mn-Si oxides by a sot-gel method in order to produce black selective coatings for CSP receiver tubes. Their optical properties were investigated by means of spe ...

Electrochromic windows can darken on demand to limit the solar gains entering a building to reduce the risk of overheating, while preserving the view towards the exterior. Yet, the switching speed and contrast as well as the durability of commercial produc ...

In order to modulate the solar gains of a building, electrochromic windows can be used. To improve their durability, inorganic solid state electrolytes are considered. This work reports on the investigation of tungsten trioxide (WO3) and lithium phosphorou ...

A real case study and characterisation of modern energy efficient windows allowing mobile communication is presented. An earlier study had shown that laser scribing of energy saving coatings allows highly reducing the microwave attenuation (from 30 to 1-3d ...

Solar cooker with a core comprising at least one insulating wall and at least one window having a glazing on which is deposited a low-e coating, characterized by the fact that said window(s) is/are oriented along several directions ...
