Detailed studies of wind-driven interbasin exchange in lakes, focusing on the underlying driving forces and how they are affected by stratification, are presently lacking. We therefore investigated how strati-fication modifies wind-induced exchange between ...

The porous medium model of Green and Ampt, describing flow in porous media, appeared earlier than the capillary model of Washburn, although both lead to the mathematically identical models. The model of Green and Ampt is related to the Washburn model by an ...

Based on the one-dimensional Biot consolidation equations, this paper developed an advection-diffusion equation that incorporates saturation, compressibility of the pore fluid and longitudinal dispersivity of the solute transport in an unsaturated, deformi ...

Near- and off-shore fresh groundwater resources become increasingly important with the social and economic development in coastal areas. Although large scale (hundreds of km) submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) to the ocean has been shown to be of the sa ...

A methodology is presented for estimating, at the city scale, the amount of biocide released from facades during rain events. The methodology consists of two elements. First, leaching of a single facade is simulated using a two-region model, one region for ...

The efficacy of different proportions of silt-loam/bentonite mixtures overlying a vadose zone in controlling solute leaching to groundwater was quantified. Laboratory experiments were carried out using three large soil columns, each packed with 200-cm-thic ...

A yearlong field experimental campaign was conducted to reveal time scales over which antibiotic fluxes vary in the influent of a wastewater treatment plant (WTP). In particular, sampling was carried out to ascertain the amplitudes of monthly, daily and ho ...

Preface to the 35th Anniversary Issue of Advances in Water Resources ...

A recent paper reported capillary rise and evaporation experiments in metallic wicks, as well as a mathematical model. The authors found a consistent discrepancy between the model predictions and data: The model over-predicted the capillary height rise by ...
