This work presents ReBeatICG, a real-time, low-complexity beat-to-beat impedance cardiography (ICG) delineation algorithm that allows hemodynamic parameters monitoring. The proposed procedure relies only on the ICG signal compared to most algorithms found ...

Nowadays, hardware devices are meant to host the execution of many complex, multi-core applications, whose functional and non-functional requirements vary according to the specific working domain. In this work, we propose a design methodology that combines ...

Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM) has become a major challenge since it directly affects Multiprocessors Systems-on-chip (MPSoCs) performance, power consumption, and reliability. In this work, we propose a transient fan model, enabling adaptive fan speed co ...

This work envisions a common design methodology, applicable for every interconnect level and based on early wire characterization, to provide a faster convergence to a feasible and robust design. We claim that such a novel design methodology is vital for u ...

To mark the occasion of festschrift of Prof. Giovanni De Micheli, this paper takes a retrospective look at research though the lines pursued by Prof. De Micheli that led to the emergence of Embedded Systems as an enduring discipline. In telling this narrat ...

Several alternative building blocks have been proposed to replace planar transistors, among which a prominent spot belongs to nanometric laments such as Silicon NanoWires (SiNWs) and Carbon NanoTubes (CNTs). However, chips leveraging these nanoscale struct ...

Wearable Health Companions allow the unobtrusive monitoring of patients affected by chronic conditions. In particular, by acquiring and interpreting bio-signals, they enable the detection of acute episodes in cardiac and neurological ailments. Nevertheless ...

Global navigation satellite system reflectometry (GNSS-R) remote sensing is a new remote sensing technique of satellite navigation application. Essentially, it entails a method of remote sensing that receives and processes microwave signals reflected from ...

ReBeatICG database contains ICG (impedance cardiography) signals recorded during an experimental session of a virtual search and rescue mission with drones. It includes beat-to-beat annotations of the ICG characteristic points, made by a cardiologist, with ...

Event detection and classification algorithms are resilient towards aggressive resource-aware optimisations. In this paper, we leverage this characteristic in the context of smart health monitoring systems. In more detail, we study the attainable benefits ...

RECIPE (REliable power and time-ConstraInts-aware Predictive management of heterogeneous Exascale systems) is a recently started project funded within the H2020 FETHPC programme, which is expressly targeted at exploring new High-Performance Computing (HPC) ...

Reconfigurable computing is a promising technology that offers an interesting trade-off between flexibility and performance, which many recent multi-core embedded system applications demand. In order to achieve these objectives, it is necessary to optimize ...

Most human–drone interfaces, such as joysticks and remote controllers, require attention and developed skills during teleoperation. Wearable interfaces could enable a more natural and intuitive control of drones, which would make this technology accessible ...

In this work, we propose an open-hardware low-power coarse-grained reconfigurable array connected to a lightweight microcontroller and enclosed in an application mapping framework. The latter provides complete support to configure kernels in the reconfigur ...

As feature sizes decrease, power dissipation and heat generation density exponentially increase. Thus, temperature gradients in Multiprocessor Systems on Chip (MPSoCs) can seriously impact system performance and reliability. Thermal balancing policies base ...
