Recently, the emission of single photons with emission wavelength in the 1.3 µm telecommunication window was demonstrated for InAs quantum dots. This makes them strong candidates for applications such as quantum cryptography, and in a longer term, quantum ...

We present a combined low-temperature time-resolved cathodoluminescence and photoluminescence study of exciton recombination mechanisms in a 3.8 nm thick a-plane (Al,Ga)N/GaN quantum well (QW). We observe the luminescence from QW excitons and from excitons ...

We report by means of near-field microscopy on the coupling between two adjacent photonic crystal microcavities. Clear-cut experimental evidence of the spatial delocalization of coupled-cavity optical modes is obtained by imaging the electromagnetic local ...

We report direct evidence of enhanced spontaneous emission in a photonic-crystal (PhC) light-emitting diode. The device consists of p-i-n heterojunction embedded in a suspended membrane, comprising a layer of self-assembled quantum dots. Current is injecte ...

We report on polarization sensitive imaging of two-dimensional photonic crystal microcavity modes. By using a near-field scanning optical microscope with a polarization sensitive setup, it is possible to selectively map, with a resolution beyond the diffra ...

We directly investigate, by means of near-field spectroscopy, the spatial distribution of the optical cavity modes of 2D photonic crystal microcavities. Numerical simulations confirm that the photoluminescence maps of quantum dots embedded in the photonic ...

We report direct evidence of enhanced spontaneous emission in a photonic crystal light-emitting diode (LED) at telecom wavelength (lambda similar to 1300 nm). This result is crucial to obtain an electrically driven single photon source with high extraction ...

A fundamental step towards achieving an "on demand" single photon source would be the possibility of electrical pumping for a single QD and thus the integration of such a device in an opto-electronic circuit. In this work we describe the fabrication proces ...

We present a spectral tuning mechanism of photonic crystal microcavities based on microfluidics. The microinfiltration with water of one or few cavity holes and its subsequent controlled evaporation allow us to tune the cavity resonances in a spectral rang ...

We demonstrate that the presence of charges around a semiconductor quantum dot (QD) strongly affects its optical properties and produces nonresonant coupling to the modes of a microcavity. We show that, besides (multi)exciton lines, a QD generates a spectr ...

The authors demonstrate a sample method to achieve local tuning of optical modes in GaAs photonic crystal nanocavities by continuous wave laser-assisted oxidation in air atmosphere. By irradiation with a focused laser beam at power levels of a few tells of ...

We experimentally observe a sizable and reversible spectral tuning of the resonances of a two-dimensional photonic crystal microcavity induced by the introduction of a subwavelength size glass tip. The comparison between experimental near-field data, colle ...

We report on a nonlinear way to control and tune the dielectric environment of photonic crystal microcavities exploiting the local heating induced by near-field laser excitation at different excitation powers. The temperature gradient due to the optical ab ...
