Variable acoustic properties can be obtained at the diaphragm of an electroacoustic transducer, with the help of very basic control strategies, among which is the simple electrical shunting of the transducer. These shunt techniques are compared to active a ...

Enhancing speech intelligibility for hearing-impaired subjects in complex acoustic conditions is still a challenging topic of research. To mitigate the detrimental effects of background noise and reverberation, current hearing instruments incorporate vario ...

Low frequency background noise (below 200 Hz) is perceptible in many situations such as in room acoustics or industrials issues. Generate by numerous type of source (traffic noise, aircraft, industrial plants, electricity transformer,… ), this type of nois ...

This paper focuses on road traffic monitoring using sounds and proposes, more specifically, a microphone array design methodology for observing vehicle trajectory from acoustic-based correlation functions. In a former work, authors have shown that combinin ...

The Flightpath 2050 European Union stringent regulations for aviation noise reduction, along with the new generation of Ultra-High-Bypass-Ratio turbofans to reduce fuel consumption, significantly challenge the scientific community to find unprecedented aco ...

Conventional loudspeakers generate sound through the vibration of a diaphragm, attached to a rigid frame through elastic suspensions. Although such construction is satisfactory for sound diffusion in steady environments, it is likely to fail in harsh condi ...

Reciprocity guarantees that in most media, sound transmission is symmetric between two points of space when the location of the source and receiver are interchanged. This fundamental law can be broken in non-linear media, often at the cost of detrimental i ...

In this paper, experimental results of broadband noise reduction in an acoustic flow duct are presented. An active liner composed of an array of electroacoustic absorbers is used. The control law is based on the pressure-based, current driven digital archi ...

The estimation of the orientation of an object, and a human head in particular, can be defined by the Euler angles: the yaw, pitch and roll. The robust and drift-free estimation of those angles is usually achieved with the data from several sensors such as ...

This paper focuses on acoustic road traffic monitoring and looks, more specifically, into the problem of speed and wheelbase length estimation of two-axle vehicles as they pass by. It is known that both front and rear axle trajectories may be dissociated u ...

Remote microphone systems significantly improve speech intelligibly performance offered by hearing aids. The voice of the speaker(s) is captured close to the mouth by a microphone, then wirelessly sent to the hearing aids. However, the sound is rendered in ...

The paper focuses on the design of a built-in electroacoustic device for active noise reduction purposes. The device basically encompasses a loudspeaker connected to a synthetic electrical impedance that enhances its ability to dissipate part of the incomi ...

Impact-loaded floor structures radiate undesired sound waves into adjacent rooms, compromising the acoustic comfort. On the other hand, substantial structural vibrations caused by the impact loading offer a promising energy source for harvesting. Neverthel ...

The poor acoustic comfort of usual commercial products is often perceived as annoying. Today, more and more companies have realized that sound can be an important component of product attributes and image. They are interested in having acoustic guidelines ...

Metasurfaces have gained fame for their ability to control the transmitted and reflected phase front of waves. Here, we introduce a reflector-type acoustic metasurface designed in such a way to control the phase front of reflected sound waves. The proposed ...

In the last years, the number of studies carried out in the field of acoustic metamaterials has significantly increased. In year 2009, our group proposed a concept of acoustic composite right/left hand transmission line (CRLH-TL) metamaterial, consisting o ...

The acoustic impedance at the diaphragm of an electroacoustic transducer can be modified using a range of active control strategies, amongst which is “direct impedance control”. This technique employs a combination of feedbacks, one on the acoustic pressur ...

In listening rooms, low-frequency modal resonances lead to uneven distributions in space and frequency of the acoustic energy, as well as an alteration of the temporal behavior of the original music content. While usual absorption techniques have severe li ...

Classical room acoustics are based on the interpretation of different sound attributes such as reverberation time, clarity and spatial decay. Based on echograms calculated from a microphone array, the dispersion of early reflections is measured and the ref ...
