In ASDEX Upgrade, the propagation of cold pulses induced by type-I edge localized modes (ELMs) is studied using electron cyclotron emission measurements, in a dataset of plasmas with moderate triangularity. It is found that the edge safety factor or the pl ...

The quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regime, formerly known as either type-II ELM or small ELM regime is studied in ASDEX Upgrade. The regime is a natural type-I ELM-free H-mode. The operational space of QCE discharges in ASDEX Upgrade with respect to their ...

A unique parabolic relation is observed to link skewness and kurtosis of density fluctuation signals, measured over the whole cross-section of the simple toroidal device TORPEX for a broad range of experimental conditions. This relationship is also valid f ...

The local properties of the electron energy distribution function are investigated in the electron-cyclotron wave driven toroidal device TORPEX (Fasoli et al 2006 Phys. Plasmas 13 055902). The electron energy distribution function is measured by means of a ...

This paper describes the extensive progress that has been made in the understanding of tokamak pedestal physics since the 2007 publication of 'Progress in the ITER Physics Basis' (Ikeda 2007 Nucl. Fusion 47 E01-S500). It serves as Chapter 3 of the 2025 Nuc ...

JET, the world's largest operating tokamak with unique Be/W wall and tritium handling capability, completed a Deuterium-Tritium (D-T) campaign in 2021 (Maggi et al 29th Fusion Energy Conf.) following a decade of preparatory experiments, dedicated enhanceme ...

Ion cyclotron (IC) wave assisted breakdown has the potential to increase the robustness of plasma initiation during the ITER pre-fusion operation phase. Studies were performed at JET at ITER relevant loop electric field, E-loop ? 0.33 Vm(-1), and a range o ...

A systematic study of the power threshold for L-H transition has been conducted in TCV. Only results from NB heated plasmas are reported. The dependencies of PLH on plasma current, plasma density and main ion species have been investigated. For Deuterium&# ...

This publication presents high spatio-temporal resolution (mm/μs) density profile measurements of the pedestal top during type I, III, and small edge localized mode (ELM) H- mode plasmas in the Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV). These measurements wer ...

A Doppler backscattering (DBS) diagnostic has recently been installed on the Tokamak & agrave; Configuration Variable (TCV) to facilitate the study of edge turbulence and flow shear in a versatile experimental environment. The dual channel V-band DBS syste ...

The mechanism for blob generation is detailed in the toroidal magnetized plasma of the TORPEX device [ Fasoli et al., Phys. Plasmas 13, 055902 (2006) ] using an experimental configuration, which features a plasma region dominated by a coherent wave and a r ...

In a magnetized toroidal plasma, an antenna tunable in vertical wave number is used to excite density perturbations. Coherent detection is performed by means of Langmuir probes to directly determine both the wave vector and the plasma response induced by t ...

JET returned to deuterium-tritium operations in 2023 (DTE3 campaign), approximately two years after DTE2. DTE3 was designed as an extension of JET’s 2022-2023 deuterium campaigns, which focused on developing scenarios for ITER and DEMO, integrating in-dept ...

Carbon impurity transport is studied in the TCV tokamak using a charge exchange recombination diagnostic. TCVs flexible shaping capabilities were exploited to extend previous impurity transport studies to negative triangularity (delta < 0). A practical way ...

The mechanisms leading to ionization of neutral gas by means of microwaves in the electron cyclotron range of frequencies in a simple toroidal plasma configuration are investigated in the TORPEX device (Fasoli A et al 2003 Bull. Am. Phys. Soc. 48 119). The ...

Pedestals limited by peeling instabilities have been reached in JET-ILW by operating at high q95, up to q95=8.5. The increase in q95 via the increase of the toroidal field has stabilized the ballooning modes and has allowed to reach high pedestal temperatu ...

In magnetic fusion devices, undesired non-axisymmetric magnetic field perturbations, typically called error fields (EF), have been observed to have a detrimental effect on plasma stability and confinement and can lead to brute plasma terminations, i.e. pla ...

A new set of carbon tiles, neutral beam heating optics and gas baffles were installed on TCV during thebaffled divertor upgrade in early 2019. The installation of the baffles allows a deconvolution of the roles ofmain chamber and divertor neutral pressure ...

Full conversion from ohmic to runaway electron (RE) driven current was observed in the tokamak a configuration variable (TCV) following massive injection of neon through a disruption mitigation valve into a low-density limited circular plasma. Following a ...

The mechanisms for anomalous transport across the magnetic field are investigated in a toroidal magnetized plasma. The role of plasma instabilities and macroscopic density structures (blobs) is discussed. Examples from a scenario with open magnetic field l ...
