The thalamus is a central component of the brain that is involved in a variety of functions, from sensory processing to high-order cognition. Its structure and function in the first weeks of extrauterine life, including its connections to different cortica ...

Background: Effects of beta-amyloid accumulation on neuronal function precede the clinical manifestation of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by years and affect distinct cognitive brain networks. As previous studies suggest a link between beta-amyloid and dysregul ...

The brain's spontaneous fluctuations measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging during rest cluster into recurrent activity patterns known as resting-state networks (RSNs). The spatial organization of RSNs in health and disease has been immensely in ...

The investigation of spontaneous and evoked neuronal activity from functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) data has come to play a significant role in deepening our understanding of brain function. As this research trend continues, activity detection ...

The reconstruction of a continuous-domain representation from sampled data is an essential element of many image processing tasks, in particular, image resampling. Until today, most image data have been available on Cartesian lattices, despite the many the ...

OBJECTIVE The tremor circuitry has commonly been hypothesized to be driven by one or multiple pacemakers within the cerebello-thalamo-cortical pathway, including the cerebellum, contralateral motor thalamus, and primary motor cortex. However, previous stud ...

Preterm birth is one of the main causes for neurodevelopmental problems, and has been associated with a wide range of impairments in cognitive functions including executive functions and memory. One of the factors contributing to these adverse outcomes is ...

We present a functional framework for the design of tight steerable wavelet frames in any number of dimensions. The 2-D version of the method can be viewed as a generalization of Simoncelli's steerable pyramid that gives access to a larger palette of steer ...

The spinal cord plays a central role in regulating sensorimotor functions through complex neural pathways. However, detailed investigation of these mechanisms remains a developing field. In this study, we propose a multimodal approach combining transcrania ...

Tomographic reconstruction from positron emission tomography (PET) data is an ill-posed problem that requires regularization. An attractive approach is to impose an

\ell_{ 1 }

-regularization constraint, which favors sparse solutions in the wavelet dom ...

The lumbosacral spinal cord contains neural circuits crucial for locomotion, organized into rostrocaudal levels with distinct somatosensory and motor neuron pools that project to and from the muscles of the lower limbs. However, the specific spinal levels ...

Little is known about the simultaneous effects of non-pharmacological interventions (NPI) on healthy older adults ' behavior and brain plasticity, as measured by psychometric instruments and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The purpose of this scoping rev ...

In this contribution, we study the notion of affine invariance (specifically, invariance to the shifting, scaling, and rotation of the coordinate system) as a starting point for the development of mathematical tools and approaches useful in the characteriz ...

Resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) opens a window on large-scale organization of brain function. However, establishing relationships between resting-state brain activity and cognitive or clinical scores is still a difficult task, in particular in terms ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been widely employed to study stroke pathophysiology. In particular, analyses of fMRI signals at rest were directed at quantifying the impact of stroke on spatial features of brain networks. However, brain n ...

Causal interactions between specific psychiatric symptoms could contribute to the heterogenous clinical trajectories observed in early psychopathology. Current diagnostic approaches merge clinical manifestations that co-occur across subjects and could sign ...

We introduce an Nth-order extension of the Riesz transform in d dimensions. We prove that this generalized transform has the following remarkable properties: shift-invariance, scale-invariance, inner-product preservation, and steerability. The pleasing con ...

Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a relatively recent imaging modality that is promising for breast cancer detection and breast screening. It combines the high intrinsic contrast of optical radiation with acoustic imaging at submillimeter spatial resolutio ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging provides rich spatio-temporal data of human brain activity during task and rest. Many recent efforts have focussed on characterising dynamics of brain activity. One notable instance is co-activation pattern (CAP) analy ...

Due to the limited depth of field of brightfield microscopes, it is usually impossible to image thick specimens entirely in focus. By optically sectioning the specimen, the in-focus information at the specimen's surface can be acquired over a range of imag ...
