Agreed intergovernmental targets to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases due to predominantly urban anthropogenic activities are becoming increasingly stringent; one might even say ambitious. One crucial strategy in achieving these targets will be to im ...

Many researchers have the goal of improving buildings daylight availability in order to decrease the HVAC energy intake. Indeed by achieving/identifying sustainable urban forms and their design concepts, the benefits of the solar radiation can be of threef ...

In part stimulated by the computer game industry, reasonable progress has been made in the dynamic modelling of urban growth and land use change. However, sustainability considerations in this work remain to be addressed. Yet the environmental impact of ci ...

Complex Fenestration Systems (CFS) are advanced daylighting systems that are placed on the upper part of a window to improve the indoor daylight distribution within rooms. Due to their double function of daylight redirection and solar protection, they are ...

A shading device (D.1, D.2) is configured to be integrated into a façade of a building, wherein the shading device (D.1, D.2) comprises an imaging system (3) configured to create images of an outside view of the building. ...

In a sky monitoring system (S), comprising an image sensor (1), a wide angle lens (16), a microprocessor (3), and a memory unit (11, 18), wherein the sky monitoring system (S) is configured to take pictures of a sky scene, wherein the sky monitoring system ...

This paper presents a methodology to approximate the urban heat island effect by using a PostgreSQL database and CitySim software, a simulation tool to evaluate urban energy flows. A ground temperature model has been developed for shallow depths (until 4m) ...
