Low concentrations of dissolved oxygen remain a global concern regarding the ecological health of lakes and reservoirs. In addition to high nutrient loads, climate-induced changes in lake stratification and mixing represent additional anthropogenic menace ...

[ 1] Retention in upstream storage dams results in modified riverine water and particle discharge patterns. Particularly, suspended solids input and intrusion dynamics in downstream lakes are affected by dam operations. In a case study, size-dependent part ...

Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid, located in south-eastern Europe, are two lakes of extraordinary ecological value. Although the upstream Lake Prespa has no surface out flow, its waters reach the 160 m lower Lake Ohrid through underground hydraulic connections. ...

The currents in the lowest few millimeters of the bottom boundary layer of lakes are highly important for the dissipation of kinetic energy and for chemical processes such as oxygen transfer into the sediment. So far, no high-resolution flow velocity profi ...

Directives and legislations worldwide aim at representatively and continuously monitoring the ecological status of surface waters. In many countries, chlorophyll-a concentrations (CHL) are used as an indicator of phytoplankton abundance and the trophic lev ...

This paper presents a novel approach for estimating the rate of turbulent kinetic energy dissipation from pulse-coherent acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) measurements using the inertial dissipation method. Although the inertial dissipation techniqu ...
