The present work shows that the electrochemical properties of electrospray ionization (ESI) can be used to add functions to the process. As example, we show how the choice of the electrode material can be used to study interactions between metal ions and b ...

Background and Objectives Microparticles (MPs) are small phospholipid vesicles of less than 1 mu m, shed in blood flow by various cell types. These MPs are involved in several biological processes and diseases. MPs have also been detected in blood products ...

The Off-Gel™ technology was recently described for protein fractionation in a solution placed on top of an immobilized pH gradient gel. In addition, this process was found to remove salts from the biological samples to analyze. This desalting effect is stu ...

Background and Objectives: Red blood cells (RBCs) suffer from lesions during cold storage, depending in part on their ability to counterbalance oxidative stress by activating their antioxidant defence. The aim of this study was to monitor the antioxidant p ...

An automated fraction collection interface has been developed for coupling capillary electrophoresis (CE) with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS). This fraction collection approach is based on electromigration and diff ...

Bloodstream infections rank among the most serious causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients, partly due to the long period (up to one week) required for clinical diagnosis. In this work, we have developed a sensitive method to quickly and ...

NOVELTY - The plate has electrically conductive substrate (1) that is covered with light sensitive matrix (2). The matrix comprises light absorber, charge carrier, probe molecule and photo-sensitizer (3) arranged to oxidize probe molecule by irradiation of ...

In proteomic analysis of complex samples at the peptide level (termed shotgun proteomics), an effective prefractionation is crucial to decrease the complexity of the peptide mixture for further analysis. In this perspective, the high-resolving power of the ...

The electrochemically induced mass spectrometric tagging of cysteines by substituted hydroquinones was studied for peptides in a classical electrospray solvent (i.e., MeOH/H2O/AcOH 50/49/1). The tagging efficiency was tested with different hydroquinone com ...

Multitrack electrospray chips (MTEC) were fabricated by UV-photoablation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. They are composed of an array of up to six microchannels that are successively used as electrospray ionization (ESI) emitters for mass ...

NOVELTY - A plate comprises an electroconductive substrate (1) at least partially covered with sintered nanoparticles (2), deposited as an array of individual spots, for use as a sorbing phase for a sample, and for supporting ionization of sorbed sample mo ...

In the present work, a polymer microfabricated microsprayer is characterised and tested for the mass spectrometric analysis of biomolecules, in particular in the context of protein mass spectrometry and proteomics. As the core of this work deals with analy ...

Currently two types of chip systems are used in conjunction with MS: out-of-plane devices, where hundreds of nozzles, nanospray emitters are integrated onto a single silicon substrate from which electrospray is established perpendicular to the substrate, a ...

Electrochemical or photo-electrochemical reactions in both electrospray ionization and laser desorption ionization are discussed stressing the role of the electrode reaction in influencing the ionization process. In particular, upon application of a high v ...

Herein, we present the large scale fabrication of carbon nanotubes (CNT) electrodes supported on flexible polymeric sheets by subsequent multilayer inkjet printing of a silver layer for electrical connection, CNT layers as active electrode material and an ...

An electrospray microchip for mass spectrometry comprising an integrated passive mixer to carry out on-chip chemical derivatizations is described. The microchip fabricated using UV-photoablation is composed of two microchannels linked together by a liquid ...

Phosphopeptides tagging reactions by dinuclear zinc(II) complexes (1,3-bis[bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amino]-propan- 2-olato dizinc(II)3+, called tag) were performed with a dual-channel microsprayer in electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The reaction is fi ...

A dual-channel electrospray microchip has been developed for electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) where aqueous samples are mixed at the Taylor cone with an organic buffer. Due to the fast and effective mixing in the Taylor cone, the aqueous ...

Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) is used in combination with copper labeling to visualize roteins on surfaces. Proteins are adsorbed on a poly(vinylidene difluoride) (PVDF) membrane and stained using a standard protocol involving copper salts. Th ...

Capillary zone electrophoresis and carrier ampholytes based capillary electrophoresis have been used as a second separation step to Off-Gel isoelectric focusing for the analysis of complex peptide mixtures. A tryptic digest of four proteins (bovine serum a ...
