An in-situ high resolution digital image correlation investigation during uniaxial tensile deformation reveals the recoverable and the non-recoverable strain mechanisms in a Ni51Ti49 alloy with a mean grain size of 35 mu m. Recoverable strain is due to the ...

In the current trend toward thicker aluminium plates, a major concern is the stress build-up during quenching which causes distortions during machining. Indeed, cooling rates are not high enough, especially at the core of such thick plates, to prevent any ...

The degradation of the superelastic properties of a commercial NiTi alloy is studied during uniaxial, biaxial and load-path-change cycling performed in-situ with synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Careful examination of the diffraction pattern during uniaxial ...

Single-crystalline cast aluminium microwires with a diameter near 15 are characterised by Laue microdiffraction. A microwire in the as-cast condition exhibits a misorientation below over a length of 500 . The measured density of geometrically necessary dis ...

The effect of electron-beam melting (EBM) and selective laser melting (SLM) processes on the chemical composition, phase composition, density, microstructure, and microhardness of as-built Ti55511 blocks were evaluated and compared. The work also aimed to ...

Micromechanics is a booming research area experiencing the development of new advanced testing methods at small dimensions A relatively young but very popular technique involves uniaxial compressing micrometer and sub-micrometer sized objects, usually in t ...

The transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect is investigated during a load path change using a cruciform sample. The transformation properties are followed by in-situ neutron diffraction derived from the central area of the cruciform sample. Additio ...

The mechanical behavior of cold-rolled Mg AZ31B is studied during in-plane multiaxial loading and tension-tension strain path changes performed on cruciform samples using in situ neutron diffraction and EBSD. The results are compared with uniaxial tension ...

While propagation of dislocations in body centered cubic metals at low temperature is understood in terms of elementary steps on {110} planes, slip traces correspond often with other crystallographic or non-crystallographic planes. In the past, characteriz ...

Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) supported by various chemical analyses techniques as well as atom probe tomography is applied to characterize newly identified nanosized precipitates in Mo-alloy nanopillars that were prepared by directional solidific ...

The mechanical behavior of three engineering materials is studied employing in situ deformation methods. The study covers metastable austenitic steels with different stacking fault energies during multiaxial loading, a Ti-6Al-4V alloy processed by electron ...
