The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent fluid with spontaneous electric and magnetic dipoles is analysed in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Taking into account the chemical composition of the current densities and stress tenso ...

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent continuous medium with intrinsic rotation is analysed in the presence of electromagnetic fields with a weak linear magnetoelectric coupling in the non-relativistic limit. Taking into account the ...

We present the quantum master equations for midsize molecules in the presence of an external magnetic field. The Hamiltonian describing the dynamics of a molecule accounts for the molecular deformation and orientation properties, as well as for the electro ...

The thermodynamics of an electrically charged, multicomponent continuous medium with electromagnetic fields is analysed in the non-relativistic limit. Applying locally the first and second law of thermodynamics and Maxwell’s equations for a linear theory o ...

Following the analytic approach to thermodynamics developed by Stuckelberg, we study the evolution equations of a closed thermodynamic system consisting of point particles in a fluid. We obtain a system of coupled differential equations describing the mech ...

The thermodynamics of irreversible processes in continuous media predicts the existence of a magnetic Nernst effect that results from a magnetic analog to the Seebeck effect in a ferromagnet and magnetophoresis occurring in a paramagnetic electrode in cont ...

The dynamics of a system consisting of a matter continuum with a weak linear magnetoelectric coupling interacting with electromagnetic fields is examined on a local scale in a non-relativistic limit. A consistent expression for the internal energy of the s ...

The damping of spin waves transmitted through a two-port magnonic device implemented on a yttrium iron garnet thin film is shown to be proportional to the temperature gradient imposed on the device. The sign of the damping depends on the relative orientati ...

The irreversible thermodynamics of a continuous medium with magnetic dipoles predicts that a temperature gradient in the presence of magnetization waves induces a magnetic induction field, which is the magnetic analog of the Seebeck effect. This thermal gr ...

The bubble nucleation rate for a first order phase transition occurring on a brane world is calculated. Both the Coleman-de Luccia thin wall instanton and the Hawking-Moss instanton are considered. The results are compared with the corresponding nucleation ...

The equivalence between irreversibility and dissipation entails that the Onsager reciprocal relations hold unconditionally, requiring the part of the phenomenological matrix describing dissipative phenomena to be symmetric. The antisymmetric part of the ph ...

By applying a variational principle on a magnetic system within the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics, we find that the presence of a temperature gradient in a ferromagnet leads to a generalisation of the Landau-Lifshitz equation with an ad ...

A heat-driven magnetization damping, that is a linear function of a temperature gradient, is predicted in antiferromagnets by considering the sublattice dynamics subjected to a heat-driven spin torque. This points to the possibility of achieving a spin tor ...

Using a three-current model (i.e. heat, spin-up and spin-down electrons) the thermodynamics of irreversible processes predicts that a temperature gradient gives rise to a spin current on large scales, in particular under the conditions used to measure the ...

A rigorous quantum description of molecular dynamics with a particular emphasis on internal observables is developed accounting explicitly for kinetic couplings between nuclei and electrons. Rotational modes are treated in a genuinely quantum framework by ...
