Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy has been used to investigate the electron-electron scattering dynamics in sulfate-covered gold nanoparticles of 2.5 and 9.2 nm in diameter. We observe an unexpected retardation of the absolute internal thermali ...

The spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of two-dimensional electrostatic assembly of Au nanocrystals are examined on poly-L-lysine (pLys) modified gold electrodes. The surface preparation for the nanoparticle deposition involved the self-assembly of a monolayer of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid on the electrode surface, followed by the electrostatic deposition of pLys from aqueous solution. The polyelectrolyte layer acts as the electrostatic anchor for the Au particles. Electrostatically stabilised Au

The emerging field of spintronics explores the many possibilities offered by the prospect of using the spin of the electrons for fast, nanosized electronic devices. The effect of magnetization acting on a current is the essence of giant or tunnel magnetore ...

Early stages of hot-electron thermalization in small gold nanoparticles wrapped in an adsorbates shell have been investigated by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Type-I hot electrons thermalize in 800 fs (to form type-II hot electron) either ...

The voltage-induced assembly of mercaptosuccinic acid-stabilized Au nanoparticles of 1.5 ± 0.4 nm diameter is investigated at the polarizable water|1,2-dichloroethane interface. Admittance measurements and quasi-elastic laser scattering (QELS) studies reveal that the surface concentration of the nanoparticle at the liquid|liquid boundary is reversibly controlled by the applied bias potential. The electrochemical and optical measurements provide no evidence of irreversible aggregation or deposition of the pa

Here we present the detection of ultralow concentrations of biomolecules in a device made from a polycarbonate membrane containing a network of gold nanowires and using a “contactless” impedance tomoscopy technique. The sensor comprises a thin dielectric l ...

The surface plasmon enhanced hyper-Rayleigh scattering light collected from an aqueous solution of gold nanorods is reported. A non negligible part of the signal is attributed to a photoluminescence background attributed to the electron–hole recombination following multiphoton excitation of d-valence band electrons into the sp-conduction band. This radiative relaxation process is likely favored by the presence of the organic species adsorbed at the surface of the nanorods. The absolute value for the hyperpo

We use sum-frequency generation spectroscopy (SFG) in the infrared 2800–3000 cm−1 spectral range and UV–vis spectroscopy (transmission) in the 450–650 nm spectral range in order to characterize vibrational and electronic properties of various interfaces co ...

A sensor for measuring adsorption on a substrate has been designed including a contactless detection scheme, called supercapacitive admittance tomoscopy (SCAT). The sensor comprises a thin dielectric layer with two parallel band electrodes on the one side ...

A device for monitoring the adsorption of target molecules on a substrate, the device comprising a substrate (1), at least a portion of which is formed as a thin dielectric layer. A first, modified surface (2) of the layer has ionizable groups of the subst ...

Predicted by the theory, ferromagnetism is expected in Co-doped ZnO. Recently, ferromagnetism above room temperature was reported in thin films as well as in bulk samples made of cobalt-doped zinc oxide. In this study, we report the preparation of ZnO dope ...

The size dependence of electron-phonon coupling rate has been investigated by femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy for gold nanoparticles (NPs) wrapped in a shell of sulfate with diameter varying from 1.7 to 9.2 nm. Broad-band spectroscopy gives a ...

We have studied the magnetic behaviour of Fe3O4 nanowires (NWs) with two different diameter ranges, above 150 nm and below 60 nm, made by electrodeposition techniques into a polymeric template. The nanowires were characterized using various techniques, in ...

We report the observation of the reversible adsorption of core-shell gold-silver nanoparticles at the polarized water/1,2-dichloroethane interface using the nonlinear optical technique of surface second-harmonic generation. This study unambiguously demonst ...

Layered surface: Particles with a diameter smaller than 10 nm can be organised in ordered multilayers that feature regular fluctuations of the work function. While the amplitude of the modulation is determined by the properties of the polypeptide and the layer-by-layer ordering, the work function of the nanoparticle-terminated surface is determined by the nature of the metal particle and its surface functionalisation (see graphic).

The voltage induced assembly and photoreactivity of cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanoparticles protected by mercaptosuccinic acid are studied at the polarisable interface between water and 1,2-dichloroethane electrolyte solutions. Cyclic voltammograms and admit ...

Isoelectric focusing in a polyacrylamide pH gradient gel is used to analyze the size distribution of gold nanoparticles synthesized by a chemical route with mercaptosuccinic acid as a ligand. The isoelectric point of the nanoparticles is shown to be size d ...
