Provisions for punching shear design of reinforced concrete slabs are usually calibrated on the basis of results from tests on isolated specimens that simulate the slab zone within the points of contraflexure around a column. However, the punching behavior ...

In this paper, the applicability of the Partial Safety Factor Format (PSFF) of EN1992-1-1:2004 (Eurocode 2 for Concrete Structures) to the reliability verification of structural concrete resistance involving multiple failure modes is investigated. This is ...

This paper investigates the shear strength of beams and one-way slabs without stirrups based on the opening of a critical shear crack. The shear-carrying mechanisms after the development of this crack are investigated. On this basis, a rational model is de ...

Physical punching shear models such as the Critical Shear Crack Theory (CSCT), which is the basis of Model Code 2010 (MC 2010), describe generally the punching strength as a function of the slab deformation. Thus, the prediction of an accurate load-deforma ...

In this paper, a mechanical model consistent with the main assumptions of the Critical Shear Crack Theory (CSCT) is proposed for shear design of slender concrete members without shear reinforcement. To that aim, the shear force that can be transferred thro ...

On April 2010, the first complete draft of new Model Code 2010 was published. It introduced a number of innovative design approaches, some of them with respect to shear and punching shear. Contrary to Model Code 90 (or some national and international codes ...

Most analytical approaches and available test data for punching shear in flat slabs assume axis-symmetrical conditions, which seems realistic for representing slabs supported on columns equally spaced in both orthogonal directions. However, in practice, th ...

In the present research, the uniaxial compression behaviour of concrete under different strain rates is investigated. The investigation emphasises the influence of the strain rate on the development of inelastic deformations due to nonlinear creep for high ...

Punching of flat slabs without transverse reinforcement has mostly been investigated in the past for slabs with equal reinforcement ratios in the two directions and loaded under axis-symmetrical conditions. However, in practice, slab bridges as well as man ...

The compressive resistance of concrete in new structures is usually characterized on the basis of tests performed on concrete cylinders or cubes under relatively rapid loading conditions. Although efficient for material characterization, these tests do not ...

This paper presents the theoretical basis and the main results of an analytical model that describes the pre– and post–yield response of bond in reinforced concrete, as well as its influence on the behavior of structural members. The model is based on a nu ...

The punching shear strength of interior column connections of flat slabs has traditionally been investigated with isolated test specimens subjected exclusively to hogging bending moments. However, the behavior of such specimens is different from that of ac ...

The mechanical model of the critical shear crack theory (CSCT) has been used in the past to investigate a number of shear-related problems, such as punching of slab–column connections with and without transverse reinforcement. In this paper, a discussion o ...

The traditional approach of codes of practice for estimating the punching strength of shear-reinforced flat slabs is based on the assumption that concrete carries a fraction of the applied load at ultimate while the rest of the load is carried by the shear ...

Punching shear resistance formulations provided by codes are usually calibrated on test results of isolated specimens that typically simulate the slab zone within the points of contraflexure around the column (hogging area). However, the behaviour of actua ...

The fib Model Code 2010 (MC2010) contains a semi-empirical formulation for the local bond-slip relationship for both pull-out and splitting failure modes (derived from short pull-out tests), as well as a semi-empirical formulation of the steel stress that ...

The role of various parameters governing bond behavior is investigated in this paper taking advantage of a simple but efficient finite-element model, whose fundamental aspects are briefly recalled. Several well-documented test results on bond are examined ...

The Serviceability Limit States (SLS) of reinforced concrete structures, where cracking and deflection limits are verified in the design process, are directly related to time-dependent properties of concrete. In this study, the effects of creep and shrinka ...

The present invention relates to a micropile or tie (10) for connecting a structure (5) to a soil (2), the micropile or tie comprising: - at least one linear metallic element (11), - at least one external corrosion-protective duct (14), inside which is pos ...

A series of 16 specimens of concrete web panels 23.6 x 23.6 x 4.9 in. (600 x 600 x 125 mm) was tested in compression to investigate the effect of the presence of various types of post-tensioning ducts on the strength of the shear-induced compression struts ...
