Hydrolysis and hydrogenation of [RhCl(tppms)(3)] (1) and trans-[RhCl(CO)(tppms(2)] (2) was studied in aqueous solutions in a wide pH range (2 < pH < 11) in the presence of excess TPPMS (3 -diphenylphosphinyl-benzenesulfonic acid sodium salt). In acidic solutions hydrogenation of 1 yields a mixture of cis-mer- and cis;fac-[RhCIH2(tppms)(3)] (3a,b) while in strongly basic solutions [RhH(H2O)(tppms)(3)] (4) is obtained, the midpoint of the equilibrium between these hydride species being at pH 8.2. The paper gi

Hydrogen can be generated from formic acid in aq. phase homogeneous catalytic reactions using ruthenium catalysts with water-sol. phosphine ligands. A comparison of tri-, di-, and mono-sulfonato triphenylphosphine, disulfonato diphenyl-alkyl-phosphines (Ph ...

N-formylation of amines with CO2 and hydrosilane reducing agents proceeds via fast and complex chemical equilibria, which hinder easy analysis of the reaction pathways. In situ reaction monitoring and kinetic studies reveal that three proposed pathways, vi ...

The water-soluble Ru(II)-phosphine complex, [{RuCl2(mTPPMS)(2)}(2)] was found a suitable catalyst for the hydrogenation of NaHCO3 to NaHCO2 in aqueous solution under mild conditions with catalyst turnover frequencies (TOFs) in the range of 35-50 h(-1) at 50degreesC and 10 bar total pressure. The suggested reaction mechanism involves the formation of Ru(II)-hydrides of the general formula [RuHX(mTPPMS)(4)] where X = H-, HCO3- or HCO2-. At 80degreesC and 95 bar total pressure, the reduction of NaHCO3 proceede

The two known Me- and allyl-substituted 1H-imidazol-3-ium bromides 1 and 2, respectively, were converted to the corresponding BF4- and BPh4- salts 3-6 (Scheme 1). Compounds 3 and 4 were liquids at ambient temperature. Reaction of 1 or 2 with [PdCl2] afford ...

Platinum nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized in situ in the ionic liquid (IL) [Emim]NTf2 (1-ethyl-3- methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide) as well as in mixtures of [Emim]NTf2 with a second IL, Lewis acid or Brønsted acid, but in the absenc ...

The chemical transformation of carbon dioxide into useful products becomes increasingly important as CO2 levels in the atmosphere continue to rise as a consequence of human activities. In this article we describe the direct hydrogenation of CO2 into formic ...

A series of thioether-functionalised imidazolium salts have been prepared and characterized. Subsequent reaction of the thioether-functionalised imidazolium salts with iodomethane affords imidazolium-sulfonium salts composed of doubly charged cations and t ...

Ionic liquids (ILs) are versatile solvents and catalysts for the synthesis of quinazoline-2,4-dione from 2-aminobenzonitrile and CO2. However, the role of the IL in this reaction is poorly understood. Consequently, we investigated this reaction and showed ...

Regioselectivity control was studied in palladium catalyzed hydroxycarbonylation of styrene in neat water with water-sol. phosphines, mostly trisulfonated triphenylphosphine, TPPTS, but also N-bis(N',N'-diethyl-2-aminoethyl)-4-aminomethylphenyl-diphenylpho ...

The water-soluble tertiary phosphine complex of ruthenium(II), [RuCl2(PTA)(4)], (PTA. 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane) was used as catalyst precursor for hydrogenation of CO2 and bicarbonate in aqueous solution, in the absence of amine or other additives, under mild conditions. Reaction of:[RuCl2(PTA)(4)] and H-2 (60 bar) gives the hydrides [RuH2(PTA)(4)] (at pH = 12.0) and [RuH(PTA)(4)X] (X = Cl- or H2O) (at pH = 2.0). In presence of excess PTA, formation of the unparalleled cationic pentakis-phosphino sp

A new water-soluble methyl-imidazolium-based ionic polymer was synthesized by ring-opening metathesis polymerization that was subsequently used to prepare aqueous gold nanoparticle solutions which were characterized by UVvis spectroscopy and transmission e ...

The biphasic hydrosilylation of 1-hexadecene with siloxane B9800 in a range of ionic liqs. is reported. Of the ionic liqs. tested, [C4py][BF4] and [C4-3-pic][BF4] offer the optimum compromise between activity and ...

The reaction of the cluster complexes [Pt-3(mu -CO)(3)(PR3)(3)] (PR3 = PPh3 1, PPh(2)Bz 2, PCy3 3 and P(i)pr(3) 4) with dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate, R'O2CC drop CCO2R' (R= CH3 or Bu-t) have been examined under various conditions. At low temperature the alkyne reacts quantitatively giving the unstable adducts [Pt-3(CO)(3)(PR3)(3)(mu (3)-alkyne)]. The stereochemistry of the intermediate [Pt-3(CO)(3)(PPh3)(3)(mu (3)-(BuO2CC)-Bu-t drop (CCO2Bu)-Bu-t)] 5has been deduced from low temperature Pt-195-{H-1}, P-31

Rhodium nanoparticles embedded on the interior of hollow porous carbon nanospheres, able to sieve monomers from polymers, were used to confirm the precise role of metal catalysts in the reductive catalytic fractionation of lignin. The study provides clear ...

A novel Ru-catalyzed hydrogenation of carbon dioxide proceeds with an unprecedented high formic acid to amine ratio (AAR of 2.69), which results in an improved energy content. The presented catalyst system allows for reversible fast hydrogen loading (even ...

The solubility of hydrogen and the corresponding Henry coefficients for 11 ionic liquids have been determined in situ at 100 atm H-2 pressure and are much lower than expected; attempts to correlate the solubility of hydrogen in the ionic liquids with the rate of reaction for the hydrogenation of benzene to cyclohexane in these solvents have been made.

[Pt-3(mu-CO)(3)(PPh3)(3)] was prepared in high yield by the reaction of [Pt-3(mu-CO)(3)(PPh3)(4)] with H2O2. The carbonyl ligands in [Pt-3(mu-CO)(3)(PR3)(3)] (PR3 = PPh3, PPh(2)Bz, PCy3, P'Pr-3) may be completely replaced by sulfur dioxide to give [Pt-3(mu-SO2)(3)(PR3)(3)] or partially by one SO2 to give [Pt-3(mu-CO)(2)(mu-SO2)(PR3)(3)] (PR3 = PCy3 and (PPr3)-Pr-i). On the other hand, the addition of one molar equivalent of carbon monoxide to [Pt-3(mu-SO2)(3)(PR3)(3)] (PR3 = PCy3, (PPr3)-Pr-i) gave the comp
