Femtosecond-resolved broadband fluorescence studies are reported for M(bpy)(3) (M = Fe, Ru), RuN3 and RuN719 complexes in solution. We investigated the pump wavelength dependence of the fluorescence of aqueous Fe(bpy)(3) and the solvent and li ...

On-the-fly excited state molecular dynamics is a valuable method for studying non-equilibrium processes in excited states and is beginning to emerge as a mature approach much like its ground state counterparts. In contrast to quantum wavepacket dynamics me ...

The energy redistribution processes in C60 trapped in low temp. rare gas solids have been studied using one- and two-color femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. The data show an ultrafast internal conversion process, followed by a slower electronic relaxation among the lowest singlet states. That data are compared to results obtained in pure solid films of C60. They suggest that the intramol. relaxation is also dominant in these later cases. [on SciFinder (R)]

The energy-resolved fluorescence spectrum was obtained for NO C2P(v = 1) excited monochromatically by synchrotron radiation. When Ar is added to NO, the global fluorescence from NO* C(1) is strongly increased, showing a decrease in the no. of dissocg. NO mols. [on SciFinder (R)]

Using the highly localized current of electrons tunneling through a double barrier scanning tunneling microscope junction, we excite luminescence from a selected C60 mol. in the surface layer of fullerene nanocrystals grown on an ultrathin NaCl film on Au( ...

Diatomic ligands in hemoproteins and the way they bind to the active center are central to the protein's function. Using picosecond Fe K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy, we probe the NO-heme recombination kinetics with direct sensitivity to the Fe-NO bi ...

In Ar matrix reversible aggregation of Au atoms to Au2 and Au3 clusters and dissocn. to monomers and in Xe matrix the formation of a special AunXe complex is obsd. The conversion ratios reach 103 and the aggregation efficiencies show thresholds and a progressive increase with power. [on SciFinder (R)]

Steady-state and picosecond time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy is used to study the ground and lowest triplet states of ReX(CO)(3)(bpy), X = Etpy (n = 1), Cl, or Br (n = 0). We demonstrate that the transient spectra at both the Re L3- and Br ...

The authors present a detailed study of the nonresonant 3rd-order ultrafast response of TiO2 nanostructured films, combining a classical heterodyned optical Kerr effect expt., with 2 polarization selective Kerr techniques, based on transient lensing and ph ...

An A2S+ (v' = 1) -> X2P (v'') Rydberg progression was obsd. despite strong nonradiative transition rates to the B2P valence states probably due to a balance with back relaxation. [on SciFinder (R)]

The past 3-5 years have witnessed a dramatic increase in the number of time-resolved X-ray spectroscopic studies, mainly driven by novel technical and methodological developments. The latter include (i) the high repetition rate optical pump/X-ray probe stu ...

Femtosecond UV-VIS and mid-IR experiments show that a new class of biomimetic photoswitches photo-isomerizes in less than 300 fs. In close analogy to rhodopsin, the isomerization is driven by ultrafast motion along the stretch and the torsional coordinates.

A review. The state of the art in the detn. of structures with ultrafast electrons and x-rays is highlighted. Perspectives and reflections on the principles, techniques, and methods are provided, and on applications from different disciplines, with some fo ...

Optical-domain transient grating (TG) spectroscopy is a versatile background-free four-wave-mixing technique that is used to probe vibrational, magnetic and electronic degrees of freedom in the time domain(1). The newly developed coherent X-ray free-electr ...
