Reaction of Ln(III) with a tetrakis(diketone) ligand H4L [1,1?-(4,4?-(2,2-bis((4-(4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobutanoyl) phenoxy)methyl)propane-1,3-diyl)bis(oxy)bis(4,1-phenylene))bis(4,4,4-trifluorobutane-1,3-dione)] gives new podates which, according to mass spe ...

Highly selective separation of yttrium (and lanthanides) is of interest for the design of radiopharmaceuticals, and an efficient method based on the ion-imprinting concept is proposed here. The synthesis and structural, thermodynamic and photophysical char ...

The current interest in functionalized calixarenes with phosphorylated pendant arms resides in their coordination ability towards f elements and capability towards actinide/rare earth separation. Uranyl cation forms 1: 1 and 1: 2 (M : L) complexes with a t ...

The connection of lipophilic gallic acid derivatives at the 5,5¢- or 6,6¢-positions of the rigid 2,6-bis(1-ethyl-benzimidazol-2-yl)pyridine core provides two pro-mesogenic tridentate ligands L10 and L12, whose molecular shapes, anisometries, and directiona ...

A unique, dual-function, photoactivatable anticancer prodrug, RuEuL, has been tailored that features a ruthenium(II) complex linked to a cyclen-europium chelate via a pi-conjugated bridge. Under irradiation at 488 nm, the dark-inactive prodrug undergoes ph ...

A series of lanthanide complexes [LnClx(bpy)y(H2O)z]Cl3-x(H2O)n(EtOH)m (Ln ) Eu, Gd, Tb; x ) 1, 2; y ) 1, 2; z ) 2-4) with different numbers of 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy), chloride ions, and water molecules in the inner coordination sphere were synthesized and ...

We report on new anionic tridentate benzimidazole-pyridine-tetrazolate ligands that form neutral 3:1 complexes with trivalent lanthanides. The ligands are UV-absorbing chromophores that sensitize the red luminescence of europium with energy-transfer effici ...

The photophysical properties of the triple-stranded dimetallic helicates [Ln2(LC−2H)3]·H2O (Ln = Nd, Sm, Dy, Yb) are determined in water and D2O solutions, and energy transfer processes are modeled for SmIII. The luminescence of NdIII, SmIII, and YbIII is sensitized by (LC−2H)2-, but the energy transfer from the ligand to the LnIII ions is not complete, resulting in residual ligand emission. The luminescence of the NdIII helicate is very weak due to nonradiative de-excitation processes. On the other hand, t

The contribution of the solvation energies to the assembly of polynuclear helicates reduces the free energy of intermetallic repulsion, DEMM, in condensed phase to such an extent that stable D3-symmetrical tetranuclear lanthanide-containing triplestranded ...

In 1891, Austrian scientist and entrepreneur Carl Auer von Welsbach filed a groundbreaking patent for a cotton mantle impregnated with cerium-doped thorium oxide, which converted the light and heat of gas lamps into a brilliant white glow. This marked the birth of lanthanide photonics and phosphor chemistry—a field that now underpins countless essential technologies, from solid-state lighting to cancer phototherapy and quantum computing information processing. This perspective explores the remarkable scient

The reaction of hydrated lanthanide hexafluoroacetylacetonates, [Ln(hfa)(3)(H2O)(2)], with 1,4-disubstituted benzenes afforded a new series of one-dimensional coordination polymers Ln(hfa)(3)(Q), where Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb, and Lu and Q = 1,4-diacetylbenzene (acbz), 1,4-diacetoxybenzene (acetbz), or 1,4-dimethyltherephtalate (dmtph). X-ray single crystal analyses reveal Ln(hfa)(3)(acbz) (Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb) consisting of zigzag polymeric chains with Ln Ln Ln angles equal to 128 degrees, whil

A new antenna molecule containing four benzoyltrifluoroacetone (BTFA) moieties anchored to a single carbon atom and connected through four flexible methoxy groups, namely 1,1'-(4,4'-(2,2-bis((4-(4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobutanoyl)phenoxy)methyl) propane-1,3-diyl)bis(oxy)bis(4,1-phenylene))bis(4,4,4-trifluorobutane-1,3-dione) [H4L], has been designed and synthesized. Using this ligand, a series of homo- and hetero-metallic Ln(III) complexes of general formula [LnL]NBu4 (where Ln = Sm (1), Gd (2), Er (3), Yb (4),

Inert and optically active pseudo-octahedral CrIIIN6 and RuIIN6 chromophores have been incorporated by self-assembly into heterobimetallic triple-stranded helicates HHH-[CrLnL3]6+ and HHH-[RuLnL3]5+. The crystal structures of CrLnL36 (Ln=Nd, Eu, ...

The heterobitopic ligands LAB4 and LAB5 have been designed and synthesised with the ultimate aim of self-assembling dual-function lanthanide complexes containing either a magnetic and a luminescent probe or two luminescent probes emitting at different wave ...

A new macrocyclic ligand,

L^3

, has been synthesised, based on the cyclen framework grafted with three phenacyl light-harvesting groups and a C5-alkyl chain bearing a carboxylic acid function as a potential linker for biological material. Acidity constant ...

Coordination-directed self-assembly has become a well-established technique for the construction of functional supramolecular structures. In contrast to the most often exploited transition metals, trivalent lanthanides Ln(III) have been less utilized in th ...

Lanthanide luminescent bioprobes (LLBs) are amongst the most sensitive luminescent probes because their excited states are long-lived, which allows time-resolved detection (TRD) of their luminescence, boosting the signal-to-noise ratio and the sensitivity; ...

Half a century after its initial emergence, lanthanide photonics is facing a profound remodeling induced by the upsurge of nanomaterials. Lanthanide-doped nanomaterials hold promise for bioapplications and photonic devices because they ally the unmatched a ...

Luminescence lifetime is a crucial parameter in photophysical studies that bears essential physical and chemical information and that is used to quantify a variety of phenomena, from the determination of quenching mechanisms to temperature sensing and bioi ...

New polydentate ligands (e.g., Tsox and TsoxMe) have been synthesized to take advantage of the chelating effect of bidentate 8-hydroxyquinolinate subunits connected to a N,N,N¢,N¢-tetraaminopropyl-1,2-ethylenediamine framework and with the aim of sensitizi ...
