This paper investigates the fatigue behavior of non-load-carrying transverse welded steel attachments by reporting on an experimental characterization under constant and variable amplitude loading. Fatigue cracks have been monitored using DIC and ACPD tech ...

The concept of post-tensioned glass beams builds on the concrete analogy of the reinforced glass beams. By additionally prestressing the reinforcement in a post-tensioned system, a compressive pre-stress is applied on the glass, enhancing the initial fract ...

Strengthening of existing steel members using prestressed carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates has certain advantages over non-prestressed reinforcement, especially due to the reduction in permanent tensile stresses acting on the steel members. Ho ...

This paper investigates the fatigue upgrading of typical cover plate joint connections in existing steel bridge girders through cover plate extension. The upgraded detail is created by removing the existing transverse end weld, then welding the extension t ...

In contrast to the Swiss load model used for new bridge structures (SIA 261), which has roots in a Europe-wide weigh-in-motion (WIM) study and considers the full design life of new structures, the model for existing structures (SIA 269) from 2005 is derive ...

Fatigue design of road bridges according to Eurocode standards can be based on damage accumulation, provided that information about loading spectrum is available. Characteristic values of fatigue resistance and load effects as well as partial safety factor ...

Residual stress state in planar tubular K-joints, in the chord within the gap region between the two braces, is studied using numerical weld modelling. The motivation comes from past full-scale fatigue tests on tubular trusses made of various steel grades ...

For the dimensioning and assessment of structures, it is common practice to compare action effects with sectional resistances. Extensive studies have been performed to quantify the model uncertainty on the resistance side. However, for statically indetermi ...

Tubular bridge design has to deal with fatigue issues. The fatigue susceptibility of these bridges, composed of circular hollow section profiles welded together in K-joints, is mainly due to stress concentrations, to welding imperfections and to tensile re ...

In this paper, several probabilistic models for evaluating the fatigue performance of post-weld treated tubular bridge structures are briefly described. The application of the models is then demonstrated on a full-scale example bridge. Under realistic traf ...

Welded details in steel bridges are subjected to fatigue lives up to 200.10(6) cycles due to traffic loads. While the majority of these stress ranges are below the Constant Amplitude Fatigue Limit (CAFL), some few high stress cycles can trigger the start o ...

In the design of recently constructed steel-concrete composite bridges using hollow section trusses for the main load carrying structure, the fatigue verification of the tubular truss joints has been a main issue. Recent research on the fatigue behaviour o ...

This report presents the traffic simulation model for the fatigue life prediction of the stiffening cables and hangers from the 3rd Bosporus bridge in Istanbul, a 2164m long hybrid suspended/stay-cable bridge with a main span of 1408m. Probabilistic models ...
