Instantaneous longitudinal velocity fields are derived from the velocity measurements collected with the ADVP. Detailed velocity profiles are the base for the estimation of the bottom shear stress through the logarithmic law of the wall. Bottom shear stress is linked to the erosive and depositive capacity of the gravity current.

The appropriate design of a river diversion system during construction of dam is an essential task since dramatic consequences in view of cost and time overrun may be involved. After a short outline of the different methods of river diversion and its main ...

The Discussers would like to congratulate the Authors for their interesting work concerning the flow characteristics in channel confluences, performed by means of three-dimensional numerical simulations considering rectangular crosssections with smooth bed ...

In the current economic situation regarding electric generation and conservation of the environment, it is essential to develop sustainable technologies. From this point of view, hydropower is an excellent resource with a consequently high value. The syste ...

Floodplains are regions of great interest for environmental assessment as they constitute important ecological reserves and contribute efficiently to natural flood attenuation. However, the implementation of a model describing the basic hydrological behavi ...

Systematic physical model tests are performed on a stepped spillway equipped with a bottom aerator at the beginning of the stepped part. A deflector is used to issue a jet in order to initiate air entrainment into the flow. A horizontal slot located in the ...

In the present communication, the 29 graduated participants of the 2005-2007 MAS edition (formerly postgraduate studies since 1999) present the results of their practical master the

Transient pressure waves in real pipe systems are affected by several phenomena not accounted for in the classic waterhammer theory. Damping mechanisms are differently manifested according to the material, configuration and existing features of pipe system ...

The European Union has the ambition to be the first carbonneutral continent by 2050. To fulfil this objective and integrate into the grid the large amount of power from solar and wind, Europe can rely upon the high storage and flexible capacity of hydropow ...

Transverse or longitudinal movements of a water body are observed for flows along cavities, river embayments, groyne fields or harbours. They are significant for certain flow conditions and geometrical properties. To study the effect of large-scale roughne ...

Haraz dam under construction is located along Tehran-Amol road, 20 km upstream of the Amol city. A tunnel has been designed to detour the traffic temporarily around the dam site to avoid any closure of the main road. This tunnel will be integrated in the m ...

When for steel liners of pressure tunnels and shafts high-strength steels are used, welded joints are subject to the risk of hydrogen induced cold-cracking in the base material. Longitudinal butt welded joints are critical regions as they are loaded transv ...

The interest in micro-hydropower in existing infrastructure is increasing since this is a technology with low environmental impacts and potential for energy recovery in different types of installation. The technologies available for these schemes are still ...
