The present work shows that the electrochemical properties of electrospray ionization (ESI) can be used to add functions to the process. As example, we show how the choice of the electrode material can be used to study interactions between metal ions and b ...

A low temperature method of bonding two polymer sheets (2, 3) without adhesive, at least one of said polymer sheets comprising a microstructure (1) or a network of microstructures, comprises the steps of treating at least a portion of one surface of one of said polymer sheets by using a cold plasma or a laser beam so as to physically activate said portion at low temperature, placing the two polymer sheets in contact, with the activated portion of said one sheet in contact with the other sheet, and subjectin

Finite element numerical simulations were carried out in 2D geometries to map the magnetic field and force distribution produced by rectangular permanent magnets as a function of their size and position with respect to a microchannel. A single magnet, two ...

This paper presents a fabrication of polymer microchips with homogeneous material technique due to surface treatment by plasma before sealing. UV laser photoablation was used for fast prototyping of microstructures, and oxygen plasma was used as a surface ...

A device, method and kit for the electrophoretic separation and purification of charged and neutral compounds in an analyte solution. The device comprises a chamber (1), at least one wall of which is composed of a chemical buffering system (4). A potential difference is applied across the buffering system, resulting in the charged and neutral compounds being differentially separated by extraction of the charged compounds into the buffering system. The device also comprises means for collecting the separated

The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method of fabricating the apparatus for dispensing a sample for subsequent analysis by mass spectrometry. The apparatus comprises a polymer substrate (1), in which a covered microchannel (3) has been etched, a wall of the microchannel comprising an electrically conductive material (2) for applying a voltage allowing the sample to be sprayed into a mass spectrometer from the open end (4) of the microchannel. The present application also discloses various ap

Phosphopeptides tagging reactions by dinuclear zinc(II) complexes (1,3-bis[bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amino]-propan- 2-olato dizinc(II)3+, called tag) were performed with a dual-channel microsprayer in electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The reaction is fi ...

There has been a recent trend towards the miniaturization of analytical tools, but what are the advantages of microfluidic devices and when is their use appropriate? Recent advances in the field of micro-analytical systems can be classified according to instrument performance (which refers here to the desired property of the analytical tool of interest) and two important features specifically related to miniaturisation, namely reduction of the sample volume and the time-to-result. Here we discuss the contri

Our recent developments concerning the fabrication of polymer microchips and their applications for biochemical analyses are reviewed. We first describe two methods of fabrication of polymer microfluidic chips, namely UV-laser photoablation and plasma etch ...

A thin chip polymer-based microsprayer has been coupled to a hybrid quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer (QTOF MS) and introduced in carbohydrate research. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated for mapping, sequencing and structural elucid ...

High-impact research articles on microfluidics and its application in biology and biotechnology. The articles have been selected from our popular Electrophoresis journal special issue.

An apparatus for manipulating fluid samples comprises a micro-chip device having first and second covered channels, each channel having openings at both ends. The channels intersect to form a common intersection. Three of the openings of the channels are c ...
