This paper proposes a novel, low-profile UWB antenna for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications. The antenna has a polarization perpendicular to the body-free-space interface, which is interesting in order to minimize the coupling into the body. It ...

This work presents the design and realization procedure of small implantable antenna for biotelemetry applications. The radiator occupies a volume smaller than 3 cm(3) (without its biocompatible insulation), is well matched within the Medical Implanted Com ...

The effect of substrate permittivity on UWB antenna radiation is studied. Microstrip and CPW-fed UWB monopoles are designed using substrates with different dielectric constants. The radiation patterns are measured. The transfer function of a two identical ...

One of the most promising bands for long-range radiocommunications is the Ka-band (25-40 GHz). This is due to the existence of a natural radio transmission window around 30 GHz. Both terrestrial and satellite transmission systems are planned on this freque ...

Cloaking using a volumetric structure composed of stacked two-dimensional transmission-line networks is verified with numerical simulations and measurements. The measurements are done in a waveguide, in which an array of metal cylinders is inserted causing ...

This work presents performance of robust wearable antennas intended to operate in Wireless Body Area Networks (W-BAN) in UHF, TETRAPOL communication band, 380-400 MHz. We propose a Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) as reliable antenna type for UHF W-BAN app ...

A method to design planar multilayer meander-line polarizers is given. The proposed procedure is based on transmission line circuit theory and on full-wave unit cell analysis in frequency domain. The hybrid combination of those two techniques paves the way ...

The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology allows to construct several types of commonly used antennas in a planar way. However, frequency limitations associated to commercial substrates appear in the implementation of certain types of antennas, e ...

This work presents novel techniques for producing substrates for flexible antennas. The technique we propose is based on the use of an already existing and widely used substrate material Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), where the dielectric properties of the s ...

The aim of this paper is to determine the dielectric characteristics of tropical wood species at microwaves frequency in order to use them as planar antenna substrate. The measurements have been done on dried wood in the frequency range 8.2-12.4 GHz The su ...

In this paper the authors present a novel power divider architecture intended to be used with the Suspended Strip Line (SSL) transmission line. The new antenna array systems, that are designed to work in the millimetre wave ranges, are suffering from the l ...

Nowadays there is an increasing need for radically miniaturized and low-power atomic frequency standards, for use in mobile and battery-powered applications. For the miniaturization of double-resonance (DR) Rubidium (Rb-87) atomic clocks, the size reductio ...

Real time tip clearance measurement in gas turbines and other rotating machinery is an interesting way to provide enhanced reliability, cost effective maintenance and more overall safety. This paper presents a novel microwave sensor for blade tip clearance ...

Three antenna systems, composed of circular monopoles with different ground plane sizes, are studied. The transmission of an UWB pulse between two identical monopoles is analyzed. The omnidirectional properties of the UWB antennas are measured and simulate ...

We evaluate the potential of a new generation microwave cavity by double resonance spectroscopic studies. Both, the cell and the microwave cavity are microfabricated. This allows a substantial size reduction for the physics package, without compromising th ...

This paper presents the design, optimization, and experimental characterization of a planar antenna subarray for space applications. The proposed component is intended to be used as a building block for a large Ka-band antenna systems. It is a one-dimensio ...

The design procedure, realization and measurements of an implantable radiator for telemetry applications are presented. First, free space analysis allows the choice of the antenna typology with reduced computation time. Subsequently the antenna, inserted i ...

We present in this paper an integrated cavity-backed patch antenna operating at 75 GHz. The design was optimized using a full-wave software based on the integral-equation method. The antenna was realized using micromachining technologies on two wafers: a s ...

A new vertically polarized omnidirectional antenna, inspired by an old design, has been studied, optimized, realized and measured. With a radiation pattern similar to the classical monopole on a ground plane, the proposed antenna concept provides a much la ...
