Anatomical reconstruction in total hip arthroplasty (THA) allows for physiological muscle function, good functional outcome and implant longevity. Quantitative data on the effect of a loss or gain of femoral offset (FO) are scarce. The aim of this study wa ...

The estimation of muscle forces in musculoskeletal shoulder models is still controversial. Two different methods are widely used to solve the indeterminacy of the system: electromyography (EMG)-based methods and stress-based methods. The goal of this work ...

Deep learning models (DLM) are efficient replacements for computationally intensive optimization techniques. Musculoskeletal models (MSM) typically involve resource-intensive optimization processes for determining joint and muscle forces. Consequently, DLM ...

Objectives This study aimed at developing a convolutional neural network (CNN) able to automatically quantify and characterize the level of degeneration of rotator cuff (RC) muscles from shoulder CT images including muscle atrophy and fatty infiltration. M ...

Previous clinical studies have reported associations between glenoid inclination (GI), the acromion index (AI), and the critical shoulder angle (CSA) on the one hand and the occurrence of glenohumeral osteoarthritis and supraspinatus tendon tears on the ot ...

A combined experimental/numerical study was performed to calculate the zone of highest strain in a rat tibia loaded axially. This study is motivated by the fact that the bone remodeling analysis in this in vivo rat model should be performed at the zone of ...

This paper describes the development of a polyimide-based MEMS strain-sensing device. Finite element analysis was used to investigate an artificial knee implant and assist on device design and to optimize sensing characteristics. The sensing element of the ...

Videogrammetry is commonly used to record upper limb motions. However, it cannot track the glenohumeral joint center (GH). GH is required to reconstruct upper limb motions. Therefore, it is often estimated by separately measuring scapular motions using sca ...

The shoulder is one of the most complex joints of the human body, mainly because of its large range of motion, but also because of its active muscular stabilisation. Actually, the numerous stabilizing muscles and degrees of freedom yield indeterminate biom ...

Hypothesis: Supraspinatus deficiency associated with total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) provokes eccentric loading and may induce loosening of the glenoid component. A downward inclination of the glenoid component has been proposed to balance supraspinatus ...

Background: Failure rates in anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA) are higher in case of asymmetric glenoid bone loss secondary to posterior wear, and in persistent static posterior subluxation of the humeral head (PSH). ...

μmotion affects the peri-implant bone formation . However, no experimental method to measure 3D μmotion along the peri-implant surface has been developed so far, besides uniaxial μmotion in a limited number of sites [2]. This work consists in devising an experimental method to obtain a surface mapping of μmotion (with an accuracy ~ 10μm) along the peri-implant site of a human femoral stem.

An analytical model of the fluid/cell mechanical interaction was developed. The interfacial shear stress, due to the coupling between the fluid and the cell deformation, was characterized by a new dimensionless number . For above a critical value, the flui ...
