The proposed paper describes the modelling and the prediction of the steady- state or transient behaviour of different modern variable-speed drives. The necessity of a performant numerical simulation tool in order to guarantee an optimized design is illustrated by examples based on existing large variable-speed drives.

The energy market liberalization requires using the actual transportation network in a more flexible and more efficient way. What is needed are strategies and facilities that will improve the energy flux sharing, as well as the maintaining of the node voltages. These goals can only be partially reached in the conventional networks. However, the FACTS are offering a very promising solution. The UPFL (Unified Power Flow Controller) will be briefly presented as an example of FACTS, and its behaviour will be il

The present paper investigates the complete regulation strategy for a large double-fed asynchronous motor-generator equipped with a 3-level VSI cascade for applications mainly in the field of pumped storage plant. For the present application, the specific problem of the DC link capacitors voltage balancing is investigated. Also a sensorless method for the determination of the rotor angle is proposed and verified in practice. Measurements of the system performed on a laboratory low power system are discussed

The aim of the present paper is to extend the well-known complex torque coefficient method usually used for synchronous machine rotor oscillations, to a slip energy recovery induction motor drive. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed extension, ...

This paper presents a combined analytical and finite-element (FE) method for computation of the no-load voltage waveform of laminated salient-pole synchronous generators. The described method takes into account saturation effects as well as the damper bar ...

The present paper deals with the determination of voltage stresses on PWM inverter fed induction motors by considering first the cable modeling and the measurement of different parameters. Then, based on this model, voltage stresses on the motor windings are determined precisely by an analytical approach, which takes into account the motor windings, and the filters. Different aspects related to such installations will be briefly described and discussed. hes will be discussed.

The present paper deals with a new approach for the study of the steady - state and transient behaviour of three-phase transformers. This approach based on magnetic equivalent circuit diagrams, takes into account the nonlinear B-H curve as well as zero-seq ...

This paper deals with the determination of large synchronous machine characteristic quantities using an extended 2D-finite element method and based on the knowledge of the geometry and of the physical properties of the electrical and magnetic circuits of t ...

The present paper describes the modeling of Unified Power Flow Controllers (UPFC) for studying the steady-state and transient behavior of electrical networks equipped with FACTS devices. Detailed time-domain simulations are carried out on four model power ...

This paper presents the modeling, simulation and analysis of the dynamic behavior of a fictitious 2x320 MW variable speed pump-turbine power plant including hydraulic system, electrical installations, rotating inertias and control systems. First, the model ...

This paper presents a refined approach to obtain the parameters of synchronous machine equivalent circuits from standstill DC decay tests. A dedicated program for the time- constants and reactances identification was developed and applied for both d- and q ...
