To prepare bactericide textiles, TiO2 has been added in the form of colloid, powder or a combination of both and the TiO2 modified textiles subsequently cured at temperatures adapted to their specific heat resistance. The bactericide textile is activated and Ag is deposited on the activated cotton or polyester to induce oxygen functionalities containing diverse polar groups. These polar groups increase the bondability of TiO2 and Ag with the textile surface. These functionalities generated in the presence o

In this study, we attempt for the first time to couple sonication and photo-Fenton for bacterial inactivation of secondary treated effluent. Synthetic wastewater was subjected to sequential high-frequency/low power sonication, followed by mild photo-Fenton treatment, under a solar simulator. It was followed by the assessment of the contribution of each component of the process (Fenton, US, hv) towards the removal rate and the long-term survival; sunlight greatly improved the treatment efficiency, with the c

Photo-Fenton process was explored as photochemical pre-treatment to improve the biodegradability of a wastewater coming from a textile industry located in the south of France, which was characterized as very biorecalcitrant by means of Zahn–Wellens biodegradability test. The effect of H2O2, Fe(III) and temperature on the photo-mineralization processes have been studied and the optimal conditions were found. Experiments were made to obtain information concerning the evolution of the biodegradability of the t

This study evaluates the use of the Fe(III)-EDDS complexing agent as an alternative to conventional acidic pH photo-Fenton for the treatment of the pesticide imidacloprid in natural water. The main objective is to estimate whether Fe(III)-EDDS is a viable ...

This study addresses the preparation and characterization of hybrid films prepared from Titanium dioxide (TiO2) Pickering stabilized acrylic polymeric dispersion as well as their bacterial inactivation efficiency under sunlight irradiation. Complete bacter ...

In this work, the issue of hospital and urban wastewater treatment is studied in two different contexts, in Switzerland and in developing countries (Ivory Coast and Colombia). For this purpose, the treatment of municipal wastewater effluents is studied, si ...

In this work, an Iodinated Contrast Medium (ICM), Iohexol, was subjected to treatment by 3 Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) (UV, UV/H2O2, UV/H2O2/Fe2+). Water, wastewater and urine were spiked with Iohexol, in order to investigate the treatment efficien ...

The bacterial inactivation of Escherichia coli on Ag–cotton textiles were investigated under different experimental conditions with novel Ag-nanoparticles fixed on cotton textiles. The evaluation of the bactericide performance of the Ag–cotton was compared ...

This paper reports the photocatalytic disinfection of water contaminated by a mixture of Escherichia coli and Bacillus sp. as well as that of wastewater containing a larger microbial community. The photocatalytic reactions were carried out in a coaxial pho ...

The degradation of metobromuron (MB), isoproturon (IP), chlortoluron (CT), and chlorbromuron (CB) in heterogeneous photocatalytic solution via TiO2 was studied in detail. The influence of parameters such as TiO2 and herbicide concentration has been investigated and the optimal conditions for the abatement of the herbicides were found. The primary degradation of the herbicides was measured by HPLC analysis. A systematic study of their photodegradation has been made to assess structure–photoreactivity relatio

The photo-disinfection of natural alkaline surface water (pH 8.6 +/- 0.3) for drinking purposes was carried out under solar radiation treatments. The enteric bacteria studied were the wild total coliforms/Escherichia coli (10(4) CFU/ml) and Salmonella spp. ...

Fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) films were deposited on float glass to create low-emissivity glass (low-E glass) by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD). Heat treatments were carried out to assess its antioxidant properties. The surface mo ...

In this investigation, a new, green photo-Fenton process for wastewater treatment is proposed, involving the use of a natural iron source and natural additives, deriving from wastes, acting as iron chelators. The use of mineral iron as precursor in the pho ...

Nitrogen and sulfur co-doped and N-doped TiO2 anatase TKP 102 (Tayca) were prepared by manual grinding with thiourea and urea, respectively, and annealing at 400 degrees C. Both materials showed visible-light absorption as measured by Diffuse Reflectance S ...

Hybrid montmorillonite-alginate beads (MABs) were prepared by the ion-gelation method from alginate and montmorillonite clay suspension dropped in a calcium chloride solution. Similarly, iron-enriched beads (Fe-MABs) were prepared using iron-exchanged mont ...

Super-elastic Titanium based thin films Ti-23Nb-0.7Ta-2Zr-(O) (TNTZ-O) and Ti-24Nb-(N) (TN-N) (at.%) were deposited by direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS) in different reactive atmospheres. The effects of oxygen doping (TNTZ-O) and/or nitrogen dopin ...

Candida spp. are able to survive on hospital surfaces and causes healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). Since surface cleaning and disinfecting interventions are not totally effective to eliminate Candida spp., new approaches should be devised. Copper ( ...

TiO2-photocatalysis disinfection experiments were carried out with both E. coli in distilled water and natural water samples from the Cauca River (Cali, Colombia). The experiments performed with E. coli in distilled water showed no increase in cell concentration after the treated solution was left in the dark for 24 h. However, the experiments carried out with natural water samples showed drastic culturable cell concentration increase 24 h after stopping the irradiation. This shows the lack of residual effe
