lexible electronic devices are currently being developed using polymer substrates. Such devices present advantages like conformability, are light-weight and are expected to be manufactured in roll-to-roll (R2R) schemes accounting for cost-reduction. These ...

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) represents one of the most widely used biodegradable polymers for food packaging applications. While this material provides many advantages, it is characterized by limited antioxidant and UV-barrier properties. Blending PLA with lig ...

The goal of the research described herein is the fabrication and assessment of electrically conductive partially-cured epoxy coatings which, upon cracking, autonomously restore barrier, mechanical and electrical properties via a microcapsule based healing ...

Long-term bioelectronic implants require stable, hermetic encapsulation. Water and ion ingress are challenging to quantify, especially in miniaturized microsystems and over time. We propose a wireless and battery-free flexible platform leveraging backscatt ...

In order to mimic the complex architecture of many bio-materials and synthesize composites characterized by continuously graded composition and mechanical properties, an innovative synthetic strategy making use of magnetic field gradients and based on the ...

The morphology of polymer/nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) composite sheets produced using different techniques and its influence on low strain stiffness were assessed by optical and transmission electron microscopy. Solvent processing led to relatively hom ...

Evaluation of interfacial toughness of sub-micron-thickness layers deposited on a ductile substrate is a challenging task which has motivated different experimental approaches Fragmentation testing was used in the present study as a means of interface char ...

Single crystals of ferromagnetic Ni-Mn-Ga shape memory alloys show magnetic-field and stress induced twinning, leading to shape memory. Adaptive composites can thus be produced by embedding single crystalline particles or bamboo-structured Ni-Mn-Ga fibres ...

Intercalates and exfoliates formed from layered materials and dendritic polymers are disclosed, together with the uses of these materials, e.g. in producing composite materials. The dispersion of layered materials in a dendritic polymer matrix (hyperbranch ...

The skin wrinkling phenomenon was investigated in case of ultralight sandwich structures with honeycomb core manufactured by one shot vacuum bag processing. A relation between process pressure and compressive strength of the skin was established. ...

The development of photovoltaic (PV) devices based on dye-sensitized TiO2-coated Ti fibers has opened up exciting possibilities for novel PV textile applications. The cohesion and adhesion of the TiO2 layer are identified as crucial factors in maintaining ...

Intrinsic, thermal, and hygroscopic contributions to the in-plane residual stress in silicon nitride films on polyimide substrates are identified, based on iso- hygric thermal ramps and isothermal relative humidity jumps, combined with non-linear elastic m ...

The magnetic properties of various families of nanocomposite materials containing nanoparticles of transition metals or transition-metal compounds are reviewed here. The investigated magnetic nanocomposites include materials produced either by dissolving a ...

The viscoelastic behavior of dilute suspensions of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanoparticles in a liquid SU8 epoxy dissolved in gamma butyrolactone was investigated at RGO concentrations in the range from 0.16 to 1.07 vol. %. Our results revealed that the ...

The invention relates to a method for the preparation of a coating comprising at least one coating layer on a solid substrate, said method comprising the steps of a, providing monomers of the type R-(N)x-(L)m-(C≡C)n-(L']o(N')y-R', wherein R is a head moiet ...
