Precipitated oxalates are often nanostructured and can be used as precursors for nanostructured oxides for different applications. The modification of the particle shape and nanostructures of both copper and cobalt oxalates has been demonstrated using poly ...

A thermodynamic model is developed for the precipitation of copper oxalate from aqueous solutions of copper nitrate and sodium oxalate in a small well-mixed batch reactor. This model is then used to explain the discrepancy between experimental pH evolution ...

Simulated body fluid (SBF) is widely used as part of an in vitro method to evaluate implant materials such as their apatite forming ability (AFA), a typical indication of potential bone-bonding ability in vivo. We report the use of carbonate-buffered SBFs ...

The prediction of implant behavior in vivo by the use of easy-to-perform in vitro methods is of great interest in biomaterials research. Simulated body fluids (SBFs) have been proposed and widely used to evaluate the bone-bonding ability of implant materia ...

NOVELTY - The bone substitute is made in one piece from cement phosphocalcium materials consolidated chemically at low temperature and in presence of water. USE - In medicine, as artificial bone graft. ADVANTAGE - Macroporous structure promotes resorption of the substitute while ensuring the best initial mechanical properties and their preservation until the graft is replaced by the newly formed bone. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Bone substitute is made in one piece from cement phosphocalcium materials consolidat

The cement for surgical purposes includes three components. The first component includes beta tertiary calciumphosphate beta-Ca3(PO4)2(beta-TCP) particles; and monocalcium phosphate Ca(H2PO4)2(MCPA) or monocalcium phosphate monohydrate Ca(H2PO4).H2O (MCPM) particles or phosphoric acid. The second component includes water. The third component includes particles having an average diameter which is larger than the average diameter of the beta tertiary calciumphosphate beta-Ca3(PO4)2(beta-TCP) particles of the

The possibility of controlling materials properties by tailoring their substructure at the nanometer scale is a current topic of great interest. To do so, a fundamental understanding of the growth mechanism is of key importance and an analytical challenge ...

Injectable calcium phosphate hydraulic cement (CPHC) is a new bone substitute family. This study aimed to evaluate the use of CPHC in surgical periodontitis-simulating defects in a dog model. CPHC was obtained by adding powder mixtures of different calcium phosphates with different solubility. Alveolar bone was removed by drilling over the mesial and distal roots of the 2nd mandibular premolar in six dogs. The defects were randomly selected, three were untreated and six treated. The defects had a depth of 6

Techniques allowing implant placement in extraction sockets require either high diameter implants in surgically enlarged sockets or grafting and/or regenerative procedures around implants after their primary surgical stabilization. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of calcium phosphate hydraulic cement (CPHC) to immobilize commercially available titanium implants in extraction sockets. CPHC was used in seven fresh dog extraction sockets in conjunction with ITI TPS implants. Three extraction sockets w

A large part of the scientific community has accepted the paradigm that a simulated body solution (SBF) can be used to test the bioactivity of a material. This is exemplified by the rapidly increasing number of publications using this test. The aim of this d ...

In the present paper, calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (Ca-def OHAP) has been examined in a transmission electron microscope. During the observation, the initial Ca-def OHAP was seen to transform first into a transient intermediate phase, then to a final, ...

The nucleation andthe crystal growth rates of mixed nickel manganese oxalates have been determined from the changes of the ionic concentration of the solution and the crystal size distribution during the precipitation process within a supersaturation range ...

A process for the production of powders by precipitation from a liquid reaction mixture comprises passing along a tubular reactor a segmented reaction flow comprised of discrete volumes of the reaction mixture separated by discrete volumes of a separating fluid which is substantially immiscible with said reaction mixture, the residence time of said discrete volumes of reaction mixture in the reactor being sufficient for the precipitation reaction to be effected.
