The invention provides in one embodiment a heat exchanger module (1) comprising a) a flexible support (100); b) at least one tubular member (200) having its main axis substantially parallel with the plane of the flexible support (100); c) a conductive flex ...

Temporary and permanent retaining structures interact with soils that are usually in unsaturated conditions. In this work, a 1g-scale physical model is presented to investigate the interactions between retaining walls and unsaturated soils. The physical mo ...

This paper addresses a new, unified thermo-mechanical constitutive model for unsaturated soils through a coupled study. In the context of elasto-plasticity and the critical state theory, the model uses the concepts of multi-mechanism and bounding surface t ...

Microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is an innovative biogeochemical ground improvement technology that can be used in-situ to improve soil stiffness and strength, by precipitating calcite within the soil. Bio-chemo-hydro-mechanical processes a ...

Using advanced hydro-geological and geo-mechanical finite element simulations, it has been possible to model the behavior of a large slope movement, namely the La Frasse landslide in Switzerland. The slide experiences a permanent movement of about 10 to 15 ...

This study presents the results of an experimental study conducted to characterise the hydro-mechanical behaviour of shot-clay MX-80 bentonite. In the shot-clay process, granular bentonite was mixed continuously with water and shot on the walls of a tunnel ...

Thermally induced group effects characterise closely spaced energy piles. It has been observed experimentally that the behaviour of energy piles subjected to mechanical and thermal loads, in which the piles are located sufficiently close to each other, is ...

Currently, schemes based on seminal empirical knowledge about energy piles subjected to mechanical and thermal loads are available to describe the response of such foundations. However, schemes based on theoretical principles may more closely reflect the p ...
