Remote coupling between quantum emitters is of great importance for constructing quantum networks. Conventionally, this can be achieved via photon exchange by incorporating the quantum emitters in a waveguide or a large cavity. However, such photonic struc ...

Quantum dots (QDs) of high symmetry (e.g., C3v) have degenerate bright exciton states, unlike QDs of C2v symmetry, making them intrinsically suitable for the generation of entangled photon pairs. Deviations from C3v symmetry are detected in real QDs by pol ...

We demonstrate the self-formation of hexagonal nanotemplates on GaAs (111)B substrates patterned with arrays of inverted tetrahedral pyramids during metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy and its role in producing high-symmetry, site-controlled quantum dots (QD ...

Most current methods for the engineering of photonic crystal (PhC) cavities rely on cumbersome, computationally demanding trial-and-error procedures. In the present work, we take a different approach to the problem of cavity design, by seeking to establish ...

We present an efficient method to model the small-signal modulation response of a long-wavelength VCSEL chip using an equivalent electrical circuit. This circuit serves two distinct purposes. Based on T-Matrix formalism, it is used to remove the parasitics ...

A compact platform to integrate emitters in a cavity-like support is to embed quantum dots (QDs) in a photonic crystal (PhC) structure, making them promising candidates for integrated quantum photonic circuits. The emission properties of QDs can be modifie ...

Class A shot-noise limited operation is achieved in an electrically pumped vertical external cavity surface emitting laser (VECSEL), opening the way for integration of such peculiar noiseless laser oscillation in applications where low power consumption an ...

Radiation properties of a pointlike source of light, such as a molecule or a semiconductor quantum dot, can be tailored by modifying its photonic environment. This phenomenon lies at the core of cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED). Quantum dots in photon ...

We report on a semiconductor disk laser emitting 1.5 W of output power at the wavelength of 745 nm via intracavity frequency doubling. The high power level and the >40 nm tuning range make the laser a promising tool for medical treatments that rely on phot ...

GaInAsN quantum dots (QDs) were grown in inverted pyramids on a patterned (111) B GaAs surface. Incorporation of N in the active structure is attested to by a significant (similar to 80 meV) redshift of the photoluminescence spectrum of the QDs. Influence of the capillarity effect on the N incorporation is evidenced by comparing the redshift in the QD emission to that of its quantum wire (QWR) barriers. The significant increase in the inhomogeneous broadening of the InGaAsN QD arrays as compared to similar

We report the first (to our knowledge) wafer-fused high-power passively mode-locked semiconductor disk laser operating at 1.57 mu m wavelength. An InP-based active medium was fused with GaAs/AlGaAs distributed Bragg reflector on a 2 inch wafer level, resul ...

Negatively and positively charged excitons are identified in the spatially resolved photoluminescence spectra of quantum wires. We demonstrate that charged excitons are weakly localized in disordered quantum wires. As a consequence, the enhancement of the ...

We fabricate and study quantum dot structures incorporating quasi-one-dimensional excited states. The structures are realized by graded bandgap GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wires self-formed inside inverted tetrahedral pyramids. The ground state transitions exhibit ...

An electroplated copper substrate was evaluated for heat dissipation in 1.55-μm optically pumped vertical extended cavity surface emitting lasers (OP-VECSELs). It is a cost-effective and flexible solution compared with the previously proposed chemical vapor deposition diamond substrate assembled by metallic bonding. Continuous-wave (CW) lasing operation was demonstrated from a device (with copper electroplated substrate) under optical pumping with pump spot diameter of 100 μm and a maximum output power of 2

The properties of single site-controlled InGaAsN quantum wires (QWRs)-both untreated and irradiated with atomic hydrogen-are probed by micro-magnetophotoluminescence spectroscopy. The strong anisotropy of the diamagnetic shift measured for different orient ...

High symmetry epitaxial quantum dots (QDs) with three or more symmetry planes provide a very promising route for the generation of entangled photons for quantum information applications. The great challenge to fabricate nanoscopic high symmetry QDs is furt ...

We have studied the luminescence of narrow quantum wires at photoexcitation densities of up to similar to 3 x 10(6) cm(-1). We show that even at these densities, which are well above the expected Mott density of 8 x 10(5) cm(-1), excitonic recombination dominates over other recombination channels in stark contrast with the behavior of quantum wells and bulk structures at equivalent densities. As we observe no significant shift in the peak energy with density, an upper limit to the band gap renormalization c

We demonstrate the ability to precisely control the deposition of a defined number of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) from solution onto microfabricated electrodes using dielectrophoresis. The solvation shelf around the CNTs, exhibiting a high dielectric constant ...

An electrically pumped VCSEL (10) and a method of its fabrication are presented. The VCSEL (10) comprises an active cavity material (14) sandwiched between top and bottom DBR stacks (12a, 12b), the top DBR (12b) having at least one n-semiconductor layer. The device defines an aperture region (25) between the structured surface (14b) of the active cavity material (14) and the n-semiconductor layer of the top DBR stack (12b). The structured surface (14b) is formed by a top surface of a mesa (22) that includes

The formation mechanisms, structure and optoelectronic properties of Ga(In)As/(Al)GaAs quantum dot (QD) heterostructures grown by organometallic chemical vapor deposition on patterned (111)B GaAs substrates are reviewed. With this approach, it is possible to prepare high-quality semiconductor QDs whose position on a substrate is precisely controlled via a pre-growth photolithography step. The dots are formed at the center of an inverted, tetrahedral pyramid and are surrounded by distinct, low-dimensional ba
