Data sharing has become of primary importance in many domains such as big-data analytics, economics and medical research, but remains difficult to achieve when the data are sensitive. In fact, sharing personal information requires individuals' unconditiona ...

In this paper, we describe JAMAP, a prototype of Web-based management platform for IP networks. It is entirely written in Java. It implements the push model to perform regular management (i.e. permanent network monitoring and data collection) and ad hoc management (i.e. temporary network monitoring and troubleshooting). The communication between agents and managers relies on HTTP transfers between Java applets and servlets over persistent TCP connections. The SNMP MIB data is encapsulated in serialized Java

Transportation safety, one of the main driving forces of the development of vehicular communication (VC) systems, relies on high-rate safety messaging (beaconing). At the same time, there is consensus among authorities, industry, and academia on the need t ...

Naouel Ben Salem, Levente Buttyan, Jean-Pierre Hubaux and Markus Jakobsson abstract: In multi-hop cellular networks, the existence of a communication link between the mobile station and the base station is not required: a mobile station that has no direct connection with a base station can use other mobile stations as relays. Compared with conventional (single-hop) cellular networks, this new generation can lead to a better usage of the available spectrum and to a reduction of infrastructure costs. However,

Personal and contextual information are increasingly shared via mobile social networks. Users' locations, activities and their co-presence can be shared easily with online ``friends'', as their smartphones already access such information from embedded sens ...

We present in this paper Network and ATM Adaptation Layers for real-time multimedia applications. These layers provide a robust transmission by applying per-cell sequence numbering combined with a selective Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanism based on Burst Erasure codes. We compare their performance against a transmission over AAL5 by simulating the transport of an MPEG-2 sequence over an ATM network. Performance is measured in terms of Cell Loss Ratio (CLR) and user perceived quality. The proposed la

Millions of users rely on mobile health (mHealth) apps to manage their wellness and medical conditions. Although the popularity of such apps continues to grow, several privacy and security challenges can hinder their potential. In particular, the simple fa ...

The Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) aims to accelerate biomedical advances by enabling the responsible sharing of clinical and genomic data through both harmonized data aggregation and federated approaches. The decreasing cost of genomic se ...

According to many scientists and clinicians, genomics is the "next big thing" in the field of medicine. On one hand, decreasing costs in genome sequencing has been paving the way to better preventive and personalized medicine. On the other hand, genomic da ...

Multi-hop hybrid networks can help providing both high bandwidth and broad coverage for wireless data networks. We focus on CSMA/CA-based networks and take IEEE 802.11 as a concrete example. We show that the three fundamental operations of synchronization, routing and energy saving can be implemented in an integrated way. Our integrated solution is based on the periodic computation of a broadcast tree among the nodes reporting to the same Access Point, starting from the Access Point itself. We use the nodes

So far, cellular networks have been operated in "private" frequency bands. But recently, several researchers and legislators have argued in favor of a more flexible and more efficient management of the spectrum, leading to the possible coexistence of sever ...

Vehicular Networks (VNs) seek to provide, among other applications, safer driving conditions. To do so, vehicles need to periodically broadcast safety messages providing precise position information to nearby vehicles. However, this frequent messaging (e.g ...

This survey provides a structured and comprehensive overview of the research contributions that analyze and solve security and privacy problems in computer networks by game-theoretic approaches. A selected set of works are presented to highlight the application of game theory in order to address different forms of security and privacy problems in computer networks and mobile applications. The presented works are classified into six main categories based on their topics: security of the physical and MAC laye

Mobile users increasingly report their co-locations with other users, in addition to revealing their locations to online services. For instance, they tag the names of the friends they are with, in the messages and in the pictures they post on social networ ...

Progress in mobile wireless technology has resulted in the increased use of mobile devices to store and manage users' personal schedules. Users also access popular context-based services, typically provided by third-party providers, by using these devices for social networking, dating and activity-partner searching applications. Very often, these applications need to determine common availabilities among a set of user schedules. The privacy of the scheduling operation is paramount to the success of such app

In self-organizing ad hoc networks, all the networking functions rely on the contribution of the participants. As a basic example, nodes have to forward packets for each other in order to enable multi-hop communication. In recent years, incentive mechanism ...

Securing ad hoc networks is notoriously challenging, notably due to the lack of an on-line infrastructure. In particular, key management is a problem that has been addressed by many researchers but with limited results. In this paper, we consider the case where an ad hoc network is under the responsibility of a mother certification authority (mCA). Since the nodes can frequently be collectively isolated from the mCA (e.g., for a remote mission) but still need the access to a certification authority, the mCA

In this paper, we propose privacy-enhancing technologies for medical tests and personalized medicine methods, which utilize patients' genomic data. First, we highlight the potential privacy threats on genomic data and the challenges of providing privacy-preserving algorithms. Then, focusing specifically on a typical disease-susceptibility test, we develop a new architecture (between the patient and the medical unit) and propose privacy-preserving algorithms by utilizing homomorphic encryption and proxy encr

In this paper, we address the problem of privacy-preserving training and evaluation of neural networks in an N-party, federated learning setting. We propose a novel system, POSEIDON, the first of its kind in the regime of privacy-preserving neural network ...

Most encrypted data formats leak metadata via their plaintext headers, such as format version, encryption schemes used, number of recipients who can decrypt the data, and even the recipients’ identities. This leakage can pose security and privacy risks to ...
