The mirror M3 is a part of the in-vessel quasi-optical beam propagation system for the ITER electron cyclotron heating upper launcher (ECHUL). The millimeter waves are guided through fixed mirror sets (M1, M2, and M3) and the front steering mirror set (M4) ...

An experimental study of the extraordinary mode (X mode) absorption at the third electron cyclotron harmonic frequency has been performed on the TCV tokamak in plasmas preheated by X mode at the second harmonic. Full single pass absorption of injected X3 power was measured with X2 preheating in co-current drive (CO-ECCD). The measured absorption exceeds that predicted by the linear ray tracing code TORAY-GA by more than a factor of 2 for the CO-ECCD case. Experimental evidence indicates that a large fractio

The aim of the present work is to provide a better insight on the magnetic shear profile modification in the Switched ECCD experiments. Modelling of the plasma current density is carried on by the ASTRA transport code employed in both predictive and interp ...

Improved electron energy confinement in tokamak plasmas, related to internal transport barriers, has been linked to nonmonotonic current density profiles. This is difficult to prove experimentally since usually the current profiles evolve continuously and ...

The ITER ECRH upper launcher (UL) uses a steering mechanism assembly (SMA) to steer the beams in the appropriate location for controlling magnetohydrodynamic (MILD) activity in the plasma (NTMs and sawtooth oscillations). ...

The effects of plasma shape on confinement and sawtooth stability are studied for positive and negative discharge triangularity and for different elongations with 1.5 MW centrally deposited ECH power

The acceleration of electrons during a sawtooth crash is demonstrated in various regimes of the TCV tokamak plasma. Simultaneous measurements of electron cyclotron emission from the low field side and from the high field side of the tokamak provide informa ...

The fully non-inductive sustainment of high normalized beta plasmas (beta(N)) is a crucial challenge for the steady-state operation of a tokamak reactor. In order to assess the difficulties facing such scenarios, steady-state regimes have been explored on ...

The Double Closure Plate Sub-Plate (DCPSP) was introduced in the Electron Cyclotron Upper Launcher (EC UL) design in order to minimize the openings exposing the interior of the Port Plug (PP) to the port cell; avoiding thus the near environment activation ...

On the basis of several recent breakthroughs in fusion research, many activities have been launched around the world to develop fusion power plants on the fastest possible time scale. In this context, high-fidelity simulations of the plasma behavior on lar ...

Electron cyclotron heating (ECH) is widely used in magnetic fusion devices, and the polarization of the injected millimeter-wave beams plays a crucial role in the propagation and absorption of the beam energy by the plasma. This polarization can be adjuste ...

The polarization of ECRH waves, set by the orientation of a pair of corrugated mirror polarizers in the transmission line, determines the degree of coupling to O- and X-modes in the plasma and has an important effect on the first-pass absorption. Existing ...

An Electron Cyclotron (EC) Heating and Current Drive (HCD) system will be installed in the EU DEMO Tokamak to provide plasma heating and stabilization by coupling up to 130 MW of mm-wave power into specific regions of the plasma. The mm -waves will be gene ...

Each of the 4 ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating Upper Launcher (ECHUL) features 8 transmission lines used to inject microwave power of up to 1.31 MW (at the source) per line, into the plasma at 170 GHz. The microwaves are guided from the gyrotrons via (empty ...

In the standard scenario of tokamak plasma operation, sawtooth crashes are the main perturbations that can trigger performance-degrading, and potentially disruption-generating, neoclassical tearing modes. This Letter demonstrates sawtooth pacing by real-ti ...

The modification of the stability and the behaviour of core MHD with local electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) is presented. Starting from the innermost resonant surface, the q = 1 surface, the stability and hence the sawtooth period and the size of sa ...

Each of the 4 ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating Upper Launcher (ECHUL) features 8 transmission lines used to inject microwave power of up to 1.31 MW per line (at the FCS diamond window), into the plasma at a frequency of 170 GHz. The millimetre waves are gui ...
