Crude oil shale, an abundant yet underutilized carbon-rich resource with kerogen concentration typically ranging from 20 to 80%, offers significant potential as a feedstock for clean and advanced energy application. Herein, we report an efficient strategy to convert crude oil shale into high-value graphitic carbon materials for lithium-ion battery anodes while simultaneously generating hydrogen-rich gas. The approach utilizes a multistage process, including leaching, supercritical extraction, solid–liquid e

The present work reports a simple approach to manufacture electrocatalytically active gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) in two steps: (i) inkjet printing and (ii) flash light irradiation from a xenon flash lamp, a process called Print-light-synthesis (PLS). ...

alpha-Synuclein (alpha-syn) is a 140-amino acid protein that plays a central role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD) and other synucleinopathies. However, the molecular determinants that are responsible for triggering and/or propagating alpha- ...

Mo2C nanowires and composites of Mo2C nanoparticles formed on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (Mo2C/CNT) were developed as advanced catalysts for hydrogen evolution at a polarised water–1,2-dichloroethane interface. Each catalyst acts as a catalytic nano-raft ...

A low temperature method of bonding two polymer sheets (2, 3) without adhesive, at least one of said polymer sheets comprising a microstructure (1) or a network of microstructures, comprises the steps of treating at least a portion of one surface of one of said polymer sheets by using a cold plasma or a laser beam so as to physically activate said portion at low temperature, placing the two polymer sheets in contact, with the activated portion of said one sheet in contact with the other sheet, and subjectin

The ageing behaviour of electric double layer (EDLC) supercapacitors during over-temperature and over-voltage stresses is described. Specific experimental tests were carried out in order to reproduce, under laboratory controlled conditions, the above-menti ...

The present invention combines the storage capacity of redox flow batteries and the production of hydrogen and other products of chemical redox reactions. The redox couple of each electrolyte is chemically regenerated on a specific catalyst bed 11, replaci ...

Fundamental expressions for analyzing potential modulated fluorescence (PMF) responses were derived within the framework of a phenomenological model for adsorption and transfer of ionic species across polarized liquid|liquid interfaces. For small periodic ...

Component-resolved diagnostic (CRD) of cow’s milk allergy has been performed using immunoaffinity capillary electrophoresis (IACE) coupled with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS). First, total IgE quantification in the ...

Sodium-ion (Na-ion) batteries have been attracting great interest because of a wide range of potential applications and sodium abundance. Yet, the performance of Na-ion electrode materials needs improvement to be able to compete with lithium-ion electrode ...

A non-precious metal electrocatalyst has been developed for the oxygen reduction reaction based on nanoporous molybdenum carbide (nano-Mo2C) wires through a facile calcination of sub-nanometer periodic organic–inorganic hybrid nanowires. The highly dispers ...

Copper(II) is known to catalyze the generation of reactive nitrogen species in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, nitrite or nitric oxide, leading to tyrosine nitration, a biomarker for free radical species associated diseases. Here, we find that biologica ...

Water oxidation catalysed by iridium oxide nanoparticles (IrO2 NPs) in water–acetonitrile mixtures using [RuIII(bpy)3]3+ as oxidant was studied as a function of the water content, the acidity of the reaction media and the catalyst concentration. It was obs ...

A method for bacteria detection and the assessment of the antimicrobial susceptibility profile uses a bacterial viability assay based on combining a highly efficient affinity bacteria enrichment/ separation with an electrochemical redox interrogation measu ...

A new method for the rapid and economic fabrication of dual soft microelectrodes for Soft-Probe-Scanning electrochemical microscopy (Soft-Probe-SECM) and their use for the simultaneous local detection of locally generated species is presented. The process ...

To understand biological processes at the cellular level, a general approach is to alter the cells’ environment and to study their chemical responses. Herein, we present the implementation of an electrochemical push-pull probe, which combines a microfluidi ...

Polyacrylamide (PA) based hydrogels are used in several applications including polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and sensing devices. Homogeneous and compact PA films can be prepared based on chemical or photopolymerization processes. However, the accurat ...

The optical and morphological properties of lustrous metal self-healing liquid-like nanofilms were systematically studied towards different applications (e.g., optical mirrors or filters). These nanofilms were formed by a one-step self-assembly methodology ...

Sustainable water oxidation requires low-cost, stable, and efficient redox couples, photosensitizers, and catalysts. Here, we introduce the in situ self-assembly of metal-atom-free organic-based semiconductive structures on the surface of carbon supports. ...

Gas evolution in classical alkaline water electrolysers strongly influences electrochemical performance through bubble accumulation at electrode surfaces and within electrolyte channels. Multiphysics modelling using COMSOL software is employed to systematically investigate gas bubble behaviour in both classical finite-gap and zero-gap alkaline water electrolyser configurations. The effects on gas bubble formation of key cell design parameters, including electrode height, as well as operating conditions, suc
