The goal of the present work was assess the feasibility of using a pseudo-inverse and null-space optimization approach in the modeling of the shoulder biomechanics. The method was applied to a simplified musculoskeletal shoulder model. The mechanical syste ...

Computer simulations are often used as support material for science education, as they can engage students through inquiry-based learning, promote their active interaction in the experimentation phase, and help them visualize abstract concepts. For instanc ...

Developing teamwork skills and creativity is becoming increasingly important in higher education. Brainstorming activities can support the acquisition of such transversal skills by encouraging open dialogue in collaborative design processes. In a successful brainstorming, participants propose diverse ideas, combine them, and elaborate new propositions by taking inspiration in the propositions of their teammates. However, the cognitive effect of idea fixation may hinder this process. Idea fixations happens w

Background: Digital self-control tools (DSCTs) have emerged as technological interventions to address excessive smartphone usage and promote digital well-being. However, these tools face persistent challenges with user attrition and sustained engagement, compromising their long-term effectiveness. Current literature lacks an understanding of how observable behavioral indicators, as opposed to self-reported measures, are associated with user engagement and readiness to change in DSCTs. Objective: This study

Critical thinking is vital in every education system. Digital tools like Large Language Models (LLMs), exemplified by ChatGPT, are part of a new scheme of education; studying its influence on critical thinking (CT) is a rising research field with a need fo ...

Digital self-control tools have emerged as technological interventions to address excessive smartphone usage and promote digital wellbeing. However, these tools face persistent challenges with user attrition and sustained engagement, compromising their long-term effectiveness. Current literature lacks understanding of the psychological mechanisms that drive user retention and meaningful interaction with DSCTs, particularly how intrinsic motivation and readiness to change influence sustained engagement patte

New extensions and features to the remote laboratories currently used for undergraduate courses in automatic control laboratory at the School of Engineering of University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland are presented. This paper shows how ...

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is recognized as a top priority for school education worldwide and Inquiry-based teaching and learning is identified as one of the most dominant approaches. To effectively engage individual ...

Training science and engineering students to become responsible citizens and professionals requires novel and creative pedagogical approaches, such as design thinking. This concept relies on processes and tools to develop creativity and problem-solving ski ...

In the framework of the Dark Skies Rangers project, we have developed a light pollution simulator aimed at demonstrating the impact of artificial light on the observation of the night sky. The simulator illustrates a nocturnal countryside scenery, with a house on one side and a small hill on the other. A young observer is sat next to a tree on top of the hill, while several stars of different brightnesses—as well as the Moon—can be seen in the night sky. The user is able to place and adjust up to seven exte

Wearable supervision systems ease the deployment of advanced mobile solutions for the control of industrial plants. These systems are used to provide operators with the adequate information to perform the required manual operations on industrial plants. Th ...

The ability to integrate multiple learning applications from different organizations allows sharing resources and reducing costs in the deployment of learning systems. In this sense, Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is the main current leading technol ...

The role of evaluation in software development has been well established. It is of first importance in usability engineering. Over the last years, many interactive systems have benefited from user evaluation, including e- learning applications. As with other interactive systems, designers of Web- based training environments can benefit from the results of an evaluation to detect the strengths and weaknesses of their application, and to prepare the next version. However, it is not obvious to evaluate educati

Coordination of autonomous non-point agents is studied in this work. Interactions between vehicles together with their internal dynamics have been modeled as a continuous, unconstrained differential game. In particular, collision prediction is shown to be ...

To effectively and efficiently implement blended science and technology education, teachers should be able to find educational resources that suit their need, fit with their curricula, and that can be easily exploited in their classroom. The European Union ...

The Electronic Laboratory Journal: A Web-Based Collaborative Environment for Remote Experimentation Georgios Fakas, and Denis Gillet Numerous tools have been developed that support the collaboration between students in education, tools that mainly include facilities for sharing documents and enabling discussions. However, these environments do not emphasize the use of facilities that sustain collaborative work in the framework of remote experimentation carried out by a group of students located at different

Technology enhanced learning (TEL) research connects Learning Sciences, Educational Psychology, and Computer Science, in order to investigate interventions based on digital technologies in education and training settings. In this paper, we argue that docto ...

Many ber-fed spectroscopic survey projects, such as DESI, PFS and MOONS, will use thousands of fiber positioners packed at a focal plane. To maximize observation time, the positioners need to move simultaneously and reach their targets swiftly. We have previously presented a motion planning method based on a decentralized navigation function for the collision-free coordination of the fiber positioners in DESI. In MOONS, the end-effector of each positioner handling the ber can reach the centre of its neighbo

Merging efficiently into roundabouts represents a challenge for autonomous vehicles due to the speed difference between merging traffic flows and the lack of certainty regarding drivers' intent, specially when the road is shared with human drivers and/or i ...
