Homogeneous and stable inorganic coating of SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 was obtained on the surface of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) by mechanically mixing them with precursor compounds in a planetary ball mill and by subsequent hydrolysis. Detailed studies ...

Electron microscopy (TEM) and electron spin resonance ESR) were applied to characterize lanthanum metallofullerene(La@C82)-filled peapods. The peapods were prepared by encapsulation of La@C82 in SWCNTs, which were obtained by laser ablation technique in th ...

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are grown on PAN-based carbon fibers by means of catalytic chemical vapor deposition technique. By using catalytic thermal decomposition of hydrocarbon, CNTs can be grown in the temperature range of 650750 degrees C. However, carbon ...

We study the effect of electron beam irradiation on the bending modulus of multiwall carbon nanotubes grown by chemical vapor deposition. Atomic force microscopy observations of the nanotube deflection in the suspended-beam geometry suggest an internal, re ...

We report the development of the frequency-modulation (FM) method for measuring electron spin resonance (ESR) absorption in the 210- to 420 GHz frequency range. We demonstrate that using a high-frequency ESR spectrometer without resonating microwave compon ...

The statistical analysis of the length distribution of catalytic chemical vapour deposition synthesized multi-walled carbon nanotubes cut by planetary ball milling is reported. The nanotube lengths follow a log-normal distribution in a broad range of grind ...

We have investigated drug loading and release from thermosensitive gel emulsions with external triggering by an alternating magnetic field (AMF) for on-demand drug delivery. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles dispersed in gel emulsions were used to ...

We report the synthesis of single crystals of a novel layered iridate Ba21Ir9O43 and present the crystallographic, transport, and magnetic properties of this material. The compound has a hexagonal structure with two iridium oxide layers stacked along the c ...

Random defects destroy long-range phase coherence, and inhibit the metal-insulator transition in the charge density wave (CDW) system 1T-TaS2. Photoelectron spectroscopy with high resolution reveals corresponding changes in the electronic structure. Core level spectra indicate a temperature-dependent limited growth of commensurate CDW domains. Screening by free carriers from the domain boundaries reduces the Coulomb repulsion in the Ta d band by similar to 1/3, compared to pure samples, yielding a finite sp

Electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements on SWCNTs doped with alkali atoms (potassium) using a solid state reaction is reported. We find the emergence of the ESR signal of itinerant electrons upon doping with a signal intensity that is comparable to that ...

Temperature-dependent electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements are reported on stage-1 potassium-doped graphite, a model system of biased graphene. The ESR linewidth is nearly isotropic, and although the g factor has a sizable anisotropy, its majority is ...

The thermal position fluctuations of a single micron-sized sphere immersed in a fluid were recorded by optical trapping interferometry with nanometer spatial and microsecond temporal resolution. We find, in accord with the theory of Brownian motion includi ...

Gd3N@C-80 endohedral fullerene, a starting material for a potential magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent, is investigated by high-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) and SQUID magnetometry. The magnetic moments of the three Gd ions of the endohedr ...

The pressure-temperature-electric field phase diagram of Fe2OBO3 is studied under ambient and high pressure using resistivity and thermoelectric power measurements. The onset of the incommensurate charge order at T-CO=340 K does not depend on pressure up t ...

We study the influence of Sr substitutions on the structural counterpart of the MI transition of BaVS3. When Sr content increases, the commensurate CDW modulation of pure BaVS3 is changed into an incommensurate short range modulation that we attribute to a ...

Nanocomposite SnO2/multiwall-carbon-nanotubes were prepared by the sol-gel method. The morphology of prepared nanocomposite powder was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. Energy-dispersive X-ray and X-ray diffraction analyses were carried out, th ...

The growth kinetics of one-dimensional single-crystalline KNbO3 nanostructures (nanowires and nanofingers, the latter understood as defective nanowires) prepared by hydrothermal processing routes has been theoretically studied. A model taking into account ...

An efficient route to synthesize macroscopic amounts of graphene is highly desired and bulk characterization of such samples, in terms of the number of layers, is equally important. We present a Raman spectroscopy-based method to determine the typical uppe ...

Single crystal growth by chemical vapour transport has resulted samples with Fe1.35Ge stoichiometry. Structural study has shown that the large number of vacancies introduces an incommensuately modulated structure. The electrical resistivity is in the 200 m ...

Since their discovery, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted intense attention to broad range of potential applications. In contrast to the 1D isolated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT), 2D films or bundles made of thousands of tubes have been introd ...
