Road traffic noise affects the quality of life in the areas adjoining the road. The effect of traffic noise on people is wide ranging and may include sleep disturbance and negative impact on work efficiency. To address the problem of traffic noise, it is n ...

For evaluating ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) applications, microsimulation is becoming a more and more useful tool. In the evaluation process, one of the most important steps is the safety analysis. For such work, classical microsimulation outputs give some helpful information which are not sufficient for an accurate analysis in many cases. Nevertheless, the microscopic level of traffic description offers the possibility of knowing the relative position of the vehicles, their speed and decelerati

One of the more useful dynamic data used by ATIS (Advanced Traveller Information Systems) and ATMS (Advanced Traffic Management Systems) applications is the link travel time, in particular for the DRGS (Dynamic Route Guidance Systems) case. Among the different methods for collecting these data, the use of probe vehicles is one of the most efficient and promising method. However, accuracy issues have to be solved, above all, from the statistical point of view. This paper presents an analyse of the individual

This paper presents a model for estimation of average travel time on signalized urban lane using cumulative plots. The plots are generated based on the availability of data: a) case-D, for detector data only; b) case-DS, for detector data and signal timing ...

The asphalt rubber blend properties are strongly related to its base components properties. The base bitumen composition is considered as a key factor influencing the final rheological properties of asphalt rubber binder. This paper describes results from ...

The present study defines a procedure for gaining a better understanding of the interaction between the aged and the virgin binders and what actually occurs during a mix process. Indeed, the authors propose a methodology to determine and quantify the clust ...

Lane density and lane flow distribution are utilised in the current study as characteristics of traffic dynamics for control and planning purposes in freeways with ITS systems. As part of an on-going research, the Lane Flow Distribution Ratio (LFDR) and th ...

This paper presents an approach to develop motorway Rear-End Crash Risk Identification Models (RECRIM) using disaggregate traffic data, meteorological data and crash database for a study site at a two-lane-per-direction section on Swiss right-hand driving ...

The use of Hard Shoulder Running (HSR) systems is a relatively recent control policy aiming to ameliorate traffic conditions in recurrent congested networks. This ITS strategy attracts researchers and practitioners interest, in an attempt to assess its imp ...

The current provisions for the braking force in the Eurocodes are much more demanding than previously enforced national codes from most European countries. Hence, safety assessments of existing bridges may show a lack of compliance with the new safety requ ...

The self-supplied navigation concept is based on the combination of the floating car data technique and the dynamic route guidance service in the same vehicles. The gains obtained by the users of such system are, obviously, closely related to the percentag ...

In order to perform some specific testing, road laboratories apply a preliminary thermal treatment that impacts the asphalt mixture mechanical and intrinsic properties. The current standardisation in Switzerland and in Europe does not sufficiently describe the procedures of thermal ageing and this leads to great variability in different test results. The present study allowed analysing the impact of thermal ageing and to establish, verify and calibrate a new reheating methodology.
