The asphalt rubber blends design is an empirical procedure and is quite sensitive to the variability of the components properties. A better understanding of the physical phenomenon involved during the curing process is a prerequisite step to propose a rati ...

The aim of this paper is to provide a fatigue-life assessment of an existing composite steel-concrete bridge within Switzerland. The Venoge bridge is a 219 meters length, four spans, four girder composite bridge, situ-ated on the Geneva-Lausanne Swiss moto ...

Ensuing from the deteriorating conditions of road networks, traffic forecasting techniques with mathematical and computer-theory methods have been employed to address the real-time prediction of traffic conditions and their dynamic control, with the optimu ...

Most of the current intermodal traveller information applications still consider one-way journeys only. For the calculation of a roundtrip two simple one-way trips are taken into account. However, most of the journeys do not consist of simple one-way trips, as a traveller usually returns to the starting point (home, office for business trips, etc.). Also, arc cost – travel time in general – tend to be time dependent, which means that the cost of the optimum roundtrip is not necessarily the double of the cos

One challenge in efficient recycling of asphalt concrete is the adherence of the reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) particles or clustering that inhibits fulfilling the aggregate gradation requirements. In order to investigate this phenomenon two types of mi ...

The aim of this paper is to explore a new approach to obtain better traffic demand (Origin-Destination, OD matrices) for dense urban networks. From reviewing existing methods, from static to dynamic OD matrix evaluation, possible deficiencies in the approa ...

Air pollution is becoming a more and more important aspect for transportation, particularly car emission in urban area. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the global emission of a transport network based on probe car and sensor data. Probe vehicles ...

Most of existing motorway traffic safety studies using disaggregate traffic flow data aim at developing models for identifying real-time traffic risks by comparing pre-crash and non-crash conditions. One of serious shortcomings in those studies is that non ...

This research study addresses issues of transport modeling aiming to the recognition of vehicles, with perspective to generate a knowledge base for an automatic recognition of vehicles from similar type of data. Based on two datasets consisted of multi-spe ...

The presented research has been carried out within the European project Intelligent Roads (INTRO). The major objective followed was to assess the potential of optical fiber for pavement monitoring in comparison with classical strain gauges. Thus, both meas ...

Porous Asphalt (PA) is used worldwide for its favorable splash and spray properties and its reduction of aquaplaning under rainy conditions as well as its noise reduction properties. Switzerland started using PA in 1979 with mixed results. According to a survey taken in 2004, nine of the 26 cantons use PA. In particular, canton Vaud in western Switzerland is known as one of the leaders in promoting and using PA. Currently, 1/3 of the Vaud motorways are covered with porous asphalt and the use of PA is planne

This communication concerns analysis of the behavior of flexible pavements using an elastic-viscoplastic constitutive relation for the asphalt concrete. The numerical model takes into consideration the influence of the temperature on the behavior of the as ...

The impact of weather on traffic and its behavior is not well studied in literature primarily due to lack of integrated traffic and weather data. Weather can significant effect the traffic and traffic management measures developed for fine weather might no ...

In this paper, we present a method for determining motorway traffic regimes where the sensitivity of motorway crash risk indicators could be better understood. Motorway crashes are usually severe. If the crash risk could be monitored, it would be possible to prevent crashes or at least diminish their severity. Using risk indicators could be a way to grasp the crash risk. Under different traffic regimes, there should exist typical crash risk. Hence, risk indicators would better grasp the risk if they were co

The laboratory of traffic facilities (LAVOC) is working in the fields of design, operation and maintenance of transport infrastructures. Since 1998 the LAVOC proposes an ITS course about the concepts and the methods of the transport telematics in order to be able to lead projects to the level of the design and realisation in this field. He also has research activities and studies using micro-simulation. Today the experience is very positiver and successful.

Pavement rutting not only decreases the road service life but also creates a danger for the security of road users. In recent years, pavement rutting rate has increased significantly due to constant traffic intensity increment. It is well known that the in ...

One of the challenges with autonomous vehicles is their performance at intersections. An alternative control method for the coordination of autonomous vehicles at intersections is shown. The proposed approach was grounded in multiple-robot coordination and ...

This paper presents a methodology for estimation of average travel time on signalized urban networks by integrating cumulative plots and probe data. This integration aims to reduce the relative deviations in the cumulative plots due to midlink sources and ...

Traffic simulation is more and more widely used and a helpful decision tool for planer and managers. Several tools exist and could be grouped in two main families: Macrosimulators with aggregate vision of the traffic in the network and microsimulators whic ...
