The extremely low permeability of Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concretes (UHPFRC) associated to their outstanding mechanical properties make them especially suitable to locally "harden" reinforced concrete structures in critical zones subjected ...

Two main factors govern the ingress of chloride ions into concrete reinforced with ordinary steel reinforcement, from de-icing salts: (1) the cover concrete (permeability, thickness), and (2) the microclimatic conditions (humidity, temperature, concentration of de-icing salts) at the concrete surface. A numerical model of chloride transport, taking into consideration environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, snow, rain and salt spreading), was used to predict the chloride profiles in concrete represe

Proportioning the dosage of Ground Calcium Carbonates (GCC) in cementitious materials, beyond current normative levels, is one of the most promising ways towards sustainability of mortar and concrete technology. Performance parameters such as the water/bin ...

The tensile behavior under low loading rates governs to a large extend the mechanical response of Strain Hardening Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concretes (SH-UHPFRC) at early age and long term, in applications of rehabilitation. A viscoelastic-v ...

Creep and crack growth govern the long-term deformability of concrete and thus its service behavior and its durability. The mechanisms involved in the couplings between these effects are not yet clearly identified. The aim of this research was to investiga ...

The thermal effects on the Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) behavior are still not completely known. Under high temperatures, the processes that interact at early age are thermo-activated. All the experimental results obtained with ...

The resistance as well as strain hardening and softening properties of UHPFRC depend on the type of matrix and mainly on the initial fibre dosage and final fibre distribution and orientation in the cast element. According to the final fibre distribution and orientation these properties may vary in a wide range. The strength and deformability distribution in a thin UHPFRC panel is studied. Tensile and flexural specimens cut in different directions and at different positions in the panel are analysed in order

The aims of the preliminary study reported in this document were twofold. Firstly, within the context of the application of UHPFRC for the rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures, to identify the phenomena that require further study with respect t ...

The influence of thermal curing on the evolution of the material properties and the UHPFRC behaviour was investigated. Tests results showed a beneficial effect of a high temperature curing on the early age material properties due to the thermo-activation e ...

Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concretes (UHPFRC) combine outstanding protective (extremely low permeability) and mechanical (high tensile strength and significant tensile strain hardening) properties. These materials can be used in composite UHPF ...

The extremely low permeability of Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concretes (UHPFRC) associated with their outstanding mechanical properties make them especially suitable to locally "harden" reinforced concrete structures in critical zones subjecte ...

Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concretes (UHPFRC) present outstanding mechanical properties and a very low permeability. Those characteristics make them very attractive for the rehabilitation of existing structures and the conception of new struct ...

Recently, fiber reinforced cementitious materials with novel properties have been developed. Here, novel properties mean “high tensile strain capacity with strain hardening and multiple fine cracks” and “high durability due to dense matrix with extremely l ...

Ultra high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (UHPFRCs) have demonstrated their outstanding efficiency as structural materials. Determination of the bending resistance of members combining UHPFRC with steel reinforcement bars (R-UHPFRC) u ...

Strain Hardening Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concretes (SH-UHPFRC) have a high elastic limit (around 10 MPa) and high tensile strength (upto 20 MPa) and exhibit significant strain hardening (1 to 4 %) under tensile loads. These appealing featur ...

In the building sector, the contribution of concrete structure to the overall emissions of greenhouse gases is significant. Switzerland is engaged in a 2050 energy strategy where the reduction of the embodied energy of buildings is a key aspect. In this study, we assess the environmental impact of different low energy concrete solutions. The study focuses on technologies that use cement with very high substitution rate (up to 65%) and other tensile resistant materials than steel in order to keep high durabi

Since 1 May 2004, the European Union road network, and accordingly the stock of highway structures, has increased significantly. Ten new Member States have brought nearly 924 500 kilometres of roads into the European network. These countries have huge numbers of highway structures, which, mainly due to their history, do not constitute a solid and trouble-free infrastructure. Structures have been affected by a lack of maintenance, regular overloading and even by the use of poor quality materials for construc

This paper discusses the influence of fiber orientation on elastic limit tensile stress of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (UHPFRC). An original model relating elastic limit tensile stress to fiber orientation is proposed, a ...

The premature deterioration of reinforced concrete structures is a heavy burden for society. In order to manage structures effectively and to reduce this burden to the minimum, the number and extent of interventions have to be kept to the lowest possible l ...

High Performance Cement-based composites such as some UHPFRC or SHCC exhibit a tensile strain hardening response associated to the progressive formation of finely distributed microcracks. Strain Hardening (SH) - UHPFRC with suitable fibrous mixes have a de ...
