Ozone prodn. in 5M H2SO4 with Ti/IrO2/SnO2 - Sb2O5 electrodes was studied. Electrodes were prepd. at 550 Deg by spray pyrolysis of a soln. of precursors contg. tin and antimony chlorides. The aim of this work was to elucidate the mechanism of activation and deactivation of Ti/IrO2/SnO2-Sb2O5 electrodes for ozone prodn. Under galvanostatic conditions the anodic potential and O3 prodn. increases firstly reaching a max. then suddenly decrease. The authors explain this observation by considering that the SnO2 l

NOVELTY - Production of a component (23) coated with a heat protection layer (21) and having a high thermal load capacity comprises applying an adhesion layer (22) containing aluminum on the surface of the component, and applying the heat protection layer on the adhesion layer. A thin auxiliary layer (24) made from nano-crystalline alpha-Al2O3 is formed on the adhesion layer before the heat protection layer is applied. USE - Used in the production of gas turbines. ADVANTAGE - The component has a long servic

Rheology of powder suspensions is a key factor in many processing routes, and better understanding of the parameters that control the rheology improves technical progress by reducing the empirical factors in the formulation of powder slurries. The strict r ...

The prediction of the rheological properties of concentrated suspensions is of great importance both in industrial processes (ceramics, cements, and pharmaceutics) and natural phenomena (debris flow, soil erosion). In a previous paper, we presented a new m ...

Many potential applications in nanotechnology require virtually defect-free arrays of nanometre-scale particles over large areas. Guided self-assembly of colloidal particles on patterned templates has been shown to produce ordered arrays of colloidal parti ...

In this article we shall describe our quest and ultimate success in furthering our understanding of the action of superplasticizers on the rheology of cement and concrete. By specifically producing superplasticizers with varied architectures, we have been ...

Transition element dopants (e.g., Y, La) are commonly used as sintering aids in polycrystalline alumina ceramics, which segregate to the grain boundaries and control the grain-boundary mobility. However, due to the extremely thin (

Fabrication conditions to obtain dense electrolyte double layers on a porous micro-tubular cathode substrate were investigated. Porous tubes of a nickelate material, Nd1.95NiO4 + δ, were fabricated by cold-isostatic pressing (CIP) and sintering. Thin films ...

Much interest has been generated in the fabrication of colloidal crystals from suspensions because of the promise of photonic band gap applications. However, since the case of small, nonsedimenting colloidal particles indeed remains rather rarely treated, ...

A force field suite, ERICA FF has been developed for the simulation of cementitious systems. It has been validated for structural, energetic and mechanical properties. It covers the species Ca, OH, sulfate, water, Si, Al, Na, K and Cl. We have simulated st ...

Ceramic lasers have advantages such as better optical homogeneity, cheaper production, and more freedom in shape compared with monocrystalline lasers. However, equal or better laser performances are required. Interface segregation is important as ceramics ...

Factors which could explain the slowing down of the metakaolin reaction in LC3 blends are investigated. Portlandite availability and the presence of aluminium ions in the pore solution are shown not to be limiting factors. ...

This study focuses on the influence of pH, aqueous phase composition and superplasticizers on the particle interactions in pure metakaolin suspensions. It was found increasing pH up to 11 led to the decrease of the particle agglomeration due to the higher ...

Phosphorescent composition comprises an alkaline earth metal silicate doped with europium fluoride and another lanthanide fluoride. Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing a composition as above by grinding a mixture of alkaline earth metal ...

Two complementary topics are discussed: (i) the continuous production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and (ii) the measurement of reaction yield by X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES). The continuous polyol synthesis of AgNPs in grams amount an ...

An empirical modification of the Yodel model was developed for the prediction of the yield stress of concentrated, particulate, paraffin-wax suspensions, with a solids loading in the range of 47-57 vol.%, used in the low-pressure injection moulding (LPIM). ...

Small amounts of anion impurities (e.g. Cl), which are incorporated during the synthesis of ceramic powders, can affect the properties and microstructure of the final sintered ceramic. The effect of anion impurities is a little studied and poorly understoo ...

Layered ceramic systems with designed stacks of dense and porous layers were investigated as alternative for thermal barrier protection system (TBPs). This approach gives the possibility to obtain low thermal conductivity with the impact protection of dens ...

A process for the production of powders by precipitation from a liquid reaction mixture comprises passing along a tubular reactor a segmented reaction flow comprised of discrete volumes of the reaction mixture separated by discrete volumes of a separating fluid which is substantially immiscible with said reaction mixture, the residence time of said discrete volumes of reaction mixture in the reactor being sufficient for the precipitation reaction to be effected.
